Responsibilities Work in a 43-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital Patient population includes post-heart catheterization, CHF, COPD, post-pacemaker (no external pacers), arrhythmias, and those awaiting CABG consult Typical nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 5, with flex up to 1 : 6 Unit is equipped with telemetry monitoring and a central monitor station staffed by monitor techs RNs are required to work 12-hour night shifts, including every other weekend as scheduled Floating may occur to other units within the hospital including ICU and Stepdown but within RN’s skillset Self-scheduling is available; block scheduling considered if unit needs allow Unit uses Epic EMR; Epic experience is preferred but not required Responsibilities include admissions, discharges, reading telemetry strips, titrating Heparin, and occasional Lasix or Bumex drips RNs are supported by PCTs, charge nurses, and a unit clerk; teamwork is emphasized Rapid, high-volume environment with 8-12 admissions and discharges per day One-day computer training and one-day unit orientation with a preceptor provided before independent assignment Royal blue scrubs are required; if a jacket is worn, it must be a scrub jacket—no hoodies or sweatshirts Call or standby is rare but possible if census is low Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit needs First time travelers are welcome; the unit is used to training and supporting new team members Requirements Active WV or Compact RN license required for consideration Minimum of 2 years of recent cardiac telemetry experience required Certifications required : BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) Must be able to interpret cardiac strips and perform or assist with EKGs Experience with titrating Heparin drips is required COVID-19 vaccination required unless medical or religious exemption is approved A copy of an unexpired driver’s license must be provided Epic charting experience preferred No BSN required Must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local travelers are not accepted Cannot be a recent employee at any WVU Medicine location within the past 2 years; cumulative WVU traveler experience must not exceed one year before a two-year break Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-623225.
