As a Capital One Lead Data Engineer (Generative AI), you will help bring the transformative power of emerging AI capabilities to reimagine how we serve our customers and businesses who have come to love the products and services we build.

The

AI Foundations

team is at the center of bringing our vision for AI at Capital One to life. Our work touches every aspect of the research life cycle, from partnering with academia to building production systems. We work with product, technology and business leaders to apply the state of the art in AI to our business.

What You’ll Do :

Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions in full-stack development tools and technologies

Work with a cross-functional team of applied researchers, data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers and product managers to test and design AI- powered products that change how customers interact with their money.

Utilize a broad stack of technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Spark, Kubeflow, and more, to support the data pipelines fueling Capital One’s customer behavior foundation models.

Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community

Perform unit tests and conduct reviews with other team members to make sure your code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and effectively tuned for performance

Basic Qualifications :

Bachelor’s Degree

At least 4 years of experience in application development (Internship experience does not apply)

At least 2 years of experience in big data technologies

At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

Preferred Qualifications :

7+ years of experience in application development including Python, SQL, Scala, or Java

4+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

4+ years experience with Distributed data / computing tools (Spark, MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Gurobi, or MySQL)

4+ years of experience designing, building and optimizing data pipelines and ETL workflows at scale

4+ years of experience with UNIX / Linux including basic commands and shell scripting

2+ year experience working on real-time data and streaming applications

2+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake)

2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Boston, MA : $193,400 - $220,700 for Lead Data Engineer

McLean, VA : $193,400 - $220,700 for Lead Data Engineer

New York, NY : $211,000 - $240,800 for Lead Data Engineer

San Francisco, CA : $211,000 - $240,800 for Lead Data Engineer

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and / or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
