Job Summary :
The Inpatient Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, and execution of the daily operation of the post-surgical floor. The manager is responsible for directing and providing professional nursing care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The Manager provides supervision and guidance to members of the inpatient staff and makes decisions affecting the operations of the department.
The Inpatient Manager is responsible for staffing and the scheduling of staff, and the development of policies and procedures. In addition, the Manager will perform other tasks as they are assigned; is a member of various committees as deemed necessary by the Chief Nursing Officer.
Essential Job Functions :
Attends daily manager huddle
Supervises and guides the inpatient multidisciplinary staff
Adjusts working hours to meet the manager needs for all shifts
Rounds daily on staff and patients
Ensures open communication with providers
Mentors RN Facilitators and Charges as well as other staff
Creates and maintains a supportive working environment
Ensures open communication through monthly staff meetings and written communication
Utilizes evidence-based practice to guide leadership and clinical decisions for the unit
Demonstrates ability to work independently
Develops quarterly action plans for performance improvement in the department
Demonstrates knowledge of the Case Management routine and expectations
Demonstrates knowledge and routine for nursing care of the surgical patient
Holds the multidisciplinary team accountable to ensure appropriate care of patients
Holds the team accountable to ensure all appropriate audits and reporting are submitted on time
Demonstrates familiarity and comprehension of the Inpatient EMR
Ensures all staff is educated in new and existing department procedures and systems
Monitors overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates
Develops capital budget for inpatient unit
Serves on appropriate committees as designated by the Chief Nursing Officer
Works collaboratively with all leadership team members
Works collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer and Human Resources to hire, evaluate, counsel and discipline staff as appropriate
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability :
Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field preferred
Four (4) years of nursing experience required
Two (2) years of demonstrated nursing leadership experience preferred
Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Wisconsin required
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
ACLS and PALS certification withing six (6) months of hire required
