Licensed Counselor – Newport News, VA
About the Role
We’re seeking a compassionate and experienced Licensed Counselor to join our behavioral health team in Newport News, Virginia. In this role, you’ll lead patients through their recovery journey—from intake to discharge—providing evidence-based counseling and collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team. Your work will directly support individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders.
Responsibilities
Clinical Coordination
- Partner with clinical staff to guide patient care
- Participate in treatment planning and case reviews
Assessment & Diagnosis
Conduct evaluations using DSM criteriaDetermine appropriate level of care using ASAM guidelinesTreatment Planning
Develop and implement individualized counseling plansAdjust plans based on patient progress and reassessmentCounseling Services
Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessionsDeliver crisis interventions as neededDischarge & Aftercare
Create comprehensive discharge and follow-up plansConnect patients with community-based support servicesDocumentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate clinical recordsEnsure compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2Team Collaboration
Engage in multidisciplinary team meetingsFoster a coordinated and supportive care environmentSchedule
Monday–Friday, 8 : 00 AM – 5 : 00 PMRotational Saturday shifts (flexible; frequency decreases as team expands)Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work (accredited institution; meets Virginia state requirements)3+ years of experience in substance use, mental health, or related fieldActive Virginia licensure under 12VAC30–130-5020 :LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor)LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)
