Status : Full-time, Exempt

Company : Host Terminals, LLC

Reports To : Terminal Operations Manager

Supervises : Operators

Location : Host Terminals – Darrow, LA

Position Summary : Supervise operational teams in vessel loading, barge discharging, material hauling and ensure team’s work is performed safely and to the requirements of the terminal and the customer.

The Person : The successful candidate will have the following behaviors and demonstrate the competencies below.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Review of the stevedore pre-vessel operational checklist & load plan.
  • Confirm assigned personnel have arrived as scheduled
  • Ensure all operational equipment is in good working order and prepared for operation
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with operational teams on safety and daily task operations.
  • Conduct pre-shift meeting with oncoming Supervisor and Dispatcher.
  • Verify that JSA’s and reports are being filled out and turned in.
  • Ensure that immediate working areas are safe to work in and that all team members are wearing the required PPE.
  • Closely supervise operational teams in vessel loading, docking / undocking vessels, barge discharging and material hauling to ensure all safety, cleanliness and efficiency measures are always utilized.
  • Ensure that barge verification procedures are followed.
  • Participate in the annual operations training program for both current and new employees, Short service program.
  • Participate / conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis, completion of action items
  • Monitor that barge cleaning is being done effectively.
  • Fill out Shift Reports every shift.
  • Monitor, keep up with team members’ time and vacation schedules on ADP.
  • Identify operational issues and concerns, resolve and / or make recommendations to terminal management, counsel stevedore team personnel as necessary.
  • Coordinate with other departments to minimize down time and / or help with repairs.
  • Communicate with chief / captain / receivers / manager / agent as needed during shift and pass relevant information to next shift supervisor
  • Coordinate post-vessel clean up and equipment maintenance, refueling and storage
  • Provide copy of shift report to terminal managers at end of each shift
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

    • Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in cargo handling and operating heavy machinery
  • Working knowledge of health and safety procedures
  • Ability to interpret ship loading plans
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency with computers

    • Physical Requirements :

  • Work in most weather conditions and around heavy machinery, which can be dangerous at times
  • Shift work which may require early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
