Title : Operations Supervisor

Reports To : Terminal Operations Manager
Supervises : Operators
Location : Host Terminals – Darrow, LA

Position Summary : Supervise operational teams in vessel loading, barge discharging, material hauling and ensure team’s work is performed safely and to the requirements of the terminal and the customer.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties :
Review of the stevedore pre-vessel operational checklist & load plan.Confirm assigned personnel have arrived as scheduledEnsure all operational equipment is in good working order and prepared for operationConduct pre-shift meetings with operational teams on safety and daily task operations.Conduct pre-shift meeting with oncoming Supervisor and Dispatcher.Verify that JSA’s and reports are being filled out and turned in.Ensure that immediate working areas are safe to work in and that all team members are wearing the required PPE.Closely supervise operational teams in vessel loading, docking / undocking vessels, barge discharging and material hauling to ensure all safety, cleanliness and efficiency measures are always utilized.Ensure that barge verification procedures are followed.Participate in the annual operations training program for both current and new employees, Short service program.Participate / conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis, completion of action itemsMonitor that barge cleaning is being done effectively.Fill out Shift Reports every shift.Monitor, keep up with team members’ time and vacation schedules on ADP.Identify operational issues and concerns, resolve and / or make recommendations to terminal management, counsel stevedore team personnel as necessary.Coordinate with other departments to minimize down time and / or help with repairs.Communicate with chief / captain / receivers / manager / agent as needed during shift and pass relevant information to next shift supervisorCoordinate post-vessel clean up and equipment maintenance, refueling and storageProvide copy of shift report to terminal managers at end of each shiftOther miscellaneous duties as assignedEducation, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required :
High School diploma or equivalentPrevious experience in cargo handling and operating heavy machineryWorking knowledge of health and safety proceduresAbility to interpret ship loading plansDemonstrated ability to lead peopleExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skillsProficiency with computersPhysical Requirements :
Work in most weather conditions and around heavy machinery, which can be dangerous at timesShift work which may require early mornings, evenings, and weekends.Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)Position Specific Behaviors :
