Job description

JFK Memorial Hospital has provided medical care to residents in the Coachella Valley since 1966. A group of physicians, including Dr. Reynaldo Carreon, founded the hospital and today one of JFK’s cross streets is named in his honor. Originally called Indio Community Hospital, JFK has grown to a 145-bed acute-care hospital that is part of Tenet Healthcare California.

General Duties :

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the step-by-step process for instrument sterilization.
  • Displays dexterity in the handling of all instrumentation.
  • Anticipates instrumentation / equipment required on a daily basis as well as what is needed for the next days cases.
  • Utilizes and understands clean and aseptic technique.
  • Maintains pressure stockings and K-thermia warming blankets.
  • Maintains instrumentation by proper cleaning care utilization, and sterilization as required.
  • Instrumentation / equipment turnover for "to follow" cases is efficient and consistent with appropriate time frames.
  • Makes recommendations to Charge Nurse / Director of Procurement and maintenance of equipment.
  • Monitors the proper functioning of the Autoclave (sterilizer), required temperature reached,
  • full cycle completed and test indicator present. Thoroughly cleans all instruments prior to sterilization to assure no debris is left on instrument prior to putting into sterilizer.
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify malfunctioning sterilizers through interpretation of test results.
  • Assembles a wide variety of instrument sets ensuring accuracy, including listing missing instruments and signing the instrument set list according to protocol as assigned.
  • Assembles instruments and places on appropriate trays. Has ability to decontaminate, assemble and wrap instruments and trays for sterilization. Maintains Hospital educational and compliance requirements annually.
  • Accurately performs quality control checks on instruments and equipment.
  • Performs duties with an awareness of cost containment.
  • Demonstrates professional maturity in all interactions.
  • Takes initiative to recognize and report appropriate areas of concern.
  • Able to organize, plan and set priorities and complete assignments with minimal assistance and within designated work hours.
  • Serves as role model and resource for new staff in the department.
  • Qualifications

    Qualification :

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Work cooperatively with a wide variety of team members
  • Sterile Processing Certification preferred
  • Valid drivers license
  • Pay Range : $20.50- $22.60 hourly

    Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience

If you receive an exemption from the vaccination requirement, you will be required to submit to regular testing in accordance with the law.

    Responsible for activities including, but not limited to decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation including various software applications, assembly, and delivery of surgical and interventional procedure case carts, paring and replenishment of materials, and working in collaboration with surgical partners to provide accurate and complete surgical instrumentation and needed supplies.

    Education :

    Required : High school diploma or GED. Completion of a formal Sterile Processing Technician course with field training or 1 year of experience as Sterile Processing Technician or Operating Technician.

    Experience :

    Preferred : 1 year as sterile processing technician with completion of formal sterile processing technician course.

    Certifications :

    Required : Must be certified with IAHCSMM or CBSPD within 1 year.

    Preferred : Current certification through internationally recognized organizations such as IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) or Certification Board for Central Sterile Processing.
