IT Technical Writer 1
Pay : $33.53 / hr
Contract Duration : 1 year (with possibility for extension)
Schedule : Part-time, 20 hours per week (8 : 00AM to 5 : 00PM PST, 1-hour lunch)
Location : Remote or Hybrid, Redwood City, CA
Candidates must be U.S. citizens, local to the Bay Area, as no sponsorship or relocation is available.
We are seeking an experienced IT Technical Writer on behalf of our higher-education client to support ongoing technology documentation initiatives across an enterprise IT organization. This role focuses on creating clear, accurate, and accessible technical content for manuals, web content, and internal documentation that serves a broad university community. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and capable of translating complex technical concepts into concise, user-friendly materials .
You will join a high-performing, collaborative team that works closely with project managers, IT staff, and service owners to ensure technical information is organized, accurate, and accessible, while supporting both digital and print content management processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, review, and organize technical materials, including manuals, appendices, instructions, online documentation, FAQs, job aids, and other resources.
- Design, format, and coordinate printing or digital distribution of technical publications.
- Develop web or print content that complies with department and university standards, including accessibility, style, and terminology guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records and track revisions for documentation projects.
- Monitor and resolve HelpSU tickets, collaborating with IT staff to ensure timely issue resolution.
- Assist with layout and formatting tasks for publications and web content.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and translate technical requirements into clear documentation.
- Ensure all documentation is clear, concise, and adheres to accessibility best practices.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant work experience , or a combination of education and commensurate professional experience.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent writing, editing, and technical communication skills.Proficiency in HTML and CSS.Experience with content management systems such as Drupal.Proficiency with Google Workspace and Adobe Creative Suite tools.Ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.Detail-oriented, self-directed, and collaborative.Ability to translate complex technical information into user-friendly documentation.Physical Requirements
