1. Performs Occupational Therapy Treatment Procedures Based on Initial and Ongoing Patient Evaluation.
- Evaluates patients by utilizing appropriate diagnostic testing of muscle function and activities of daily living.
- Develops and implements the patient's plan of care in collaboration with the health care provider, other consulting health care professionals, family / caregiver according to facility procedures and state and federal regulations.
- Documents the care provided, instructions given, patients progress toward goals, and changes in condition adhering to the facility’s policies and procedures and state / federal regulations.
- Designs and implements an ongoing restorative program utilizing appropriate support personnel, i.e. family members, nursing staff, etc…
- Re-evaluates patient on a regular basis and adjust treatment accordingly using subjective and objective information.
- Provides cost effective health service in the most appropriate setting as directed by the patient’s medical and social needs.
- Designs and provides positioning device and staff instruction to prevent contracture deformities and to maintain optimal postural stability.
- Integrates both manual and non-manual therapy skills in treatment of patients where indicated.
2. Plans and Oversees Activity Programs for Patients.
Plans programs involving activities, such as manual arts and crafts; practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, and activities of daily living.Plans programs of participation in sensory motor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjusting.Selects constructive activities suited to patient's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest to upgrade patient to maximum independence, prepare patient for return to employment, assists in restoration of functions, and aid in adjustment to disability.3. Prepares and Uses Necessary Equipment.
Inventories and requisitions adaptive equipment and all other supplies needed.Designs and constructs special equipment for individual and makes suggestions regarding adaptations of individual's work-living environment.Assists in evaluating patient’s present equipment and offer suggestions or recommendations for changes to enhance the patient’s overall functional abilities.Utilizes space and equipment in cooperation with other staff.4. Performs and Maintains Documentation.
Documents accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status that reflect Occupational Therapy interventions, patient responses, patient teaching and status of outcomes at discharge.Completes all documentation and submits billing in a timely manner.5. Communicates Effectively.
Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, occupational therapy plan of care, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms / changes in patient condition, established priorities, and takes appropriate action. Appropriately reports condition changes to medical provider.6. Promotes and Ensures Patient and Staff Safety in All Aspects of Responsibilities.
Administers treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to health care provider orders and hospital policy, including appropriate performance of standard precautions and performing patient risk assessments every shift.Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer / lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves.7. Performs Other Duties as Assigned.
