ABOUT CONTRACT SERVICES: In the mid-1960s, the major film studios, in negotiations with Hollywood's unions, founded the non-profit Contract Services Administration Trust Fund (CSATF) and later added Contract Services Administration Training Trust Fund (CSATTF), now collectively referred to as Contract Services (CS). CS carries out an extensive list of contractual, legal, and regulatory obligations that must be implemented on behalf of the studios, especially with respect to certain requirements of the collective bargaining agreements that apply to a freelance union workforce of more than 50,000 production workers in the greater Los Angeles area. These services include administering seniority rosters, operating safety training, and apprenticeship programs, administering a drug and alcohol testing program that applies to commercial drivers working in the motion picture industry, and implementing many other industry-wide services, studies, and/or education on behalf of the motion picture production industry.

JOB SUMMARY: Contract Services is seeking a highly skilled Instructional Designer to join our Curriculum Development department. The Instructional Designer is responsible for providing strategic training solutions by developing engaging eLearning and instructor-led training (ILT) courses and multimedia deliverables that support continuous and blended learning. This position will champion training innovation by researching, consulting on, and leveraging new training techniques and opportunities to ensure safety and general compliance within the industry while maintaining consistency with the company's mission and goals. The Instructional Designer is an expert in their discipline, and they have full competency in all relevant eLearning tools and platforms. They must have experience in project life cycles, instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, operation of Learning Management Systems, and creative problem-solving to create impactful training that enhances skills, improves performance, and supports the successful execution of course development.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Design and develop engaging, innovative, effective instructor-led and eLearning training course materials with clear strategies and tactics to achieve desired learning outcomes.
- Produce multimedia elements (audio, video, graphics, animations) effectively into learning solutions to enhance engagement and comprehension.
- Research, write and create detailed course content, design documents, storyboards, scripts, and other instructional course materials by applying adult and digital learning principles and strategies.
- Maintain, evaluate, and revise existing learning content in our Learning Management System, which is our primary method of delivery, but also supports ILT programs.
- Oversee training programs, which include scoping and planning of learning solutions as well as collaboration with project leads, internal clients, subject matter experts, and third-party vendor development partner(s)
- Create learning solutions through various methods such as eLearning, instructor-led, self-paced, and blended mediums.
- Create training content aligned with learning objectives/outcomes and exhibit best practices for interactions that support adult learning.
- Leverage adult learning principles while paying special consideration to learning experience design (LXD), digital accessibility standards and adhering to Contract Services brand guidelines.
- Stay abreast of industry trends in instructional design, learning technologies, and film/TV production to continuously improve our learning offerings.
- Provide LMS maintenance and operation support.
- Maintains project confidentiality when necessary.
- Responsible for other duties/projects as assigned by management as needed.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:- Proficient knowledge of instructional design theories and adult learning program development (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Merrill's Principles of Instruction, Gagne's Nine Events) to ensure optimal learning outcomes.
- Advanced proficiency with authoring tools such as Articulate 360 Suite (Storyline, Rise & Review), Adobe Captivate and Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Audition), Camtasia, Vyond Animation, and other learning experience design tools.
- Hands-on experience with LMS systems (e.g., Docebo) administration, including content management and reporting and analytics.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced experience in PowerPoint.
- Advanced verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to successfully deliver and communicate complex technical training concepts.
- Advanced technical writing skills to bridge complex information and engaging, effective learning content.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting quickly to shifting priorities.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong project management practices, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality learning solutions.
- Ability to work both in a team environment and autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Ability to provide resources for management and a mentor to other staff by proactively offering performance consulting solutions and strategies.
- Ability to partner with subject matter experts and stakeholders to analyze performance gaps and define objectives to design, develop, and deliver engaging content for a variety of audiences and delivery modes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Enthusiasm to introduce new training tools and concepts into the training development process.
- Ability to mentor and provide guidance to eLearning developers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with SMEs and stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work remotely or at our Burbank facility when requested.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Education, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in instructional design and curriculum development, with a strong portfolio showcasing diverse learning solutions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, Section 508) for e-learning content.
- Experience in designing and developing training for a technical or specialized industry; experience in film, television, or media production is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the Motion Picture and Television Industry and Unions
- Knowledge of OSHA (Cal and Fed) regulations, ANSI, NFPA, and other regulatory standards
- Knowledge of AI-assisted content development preferred.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education- An undergraduate or graduate degree in Instructional Design and Technology, Adult Education, eLearning Design, and Education or other relevant fields of study.
Experience- Education and experience equivalent to 5 + years within the instructional design field.
- Experience developing safety and compliance-related training preferred.
OR Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Physical Requirements/Work Environments: The position can be fully remote. Must be available to work 7 a.m. - 4 p. m. or 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time
