Position Summary
The employee will ensure the highest quality learning experience for YOLA students, support each child holistically, and create curriculum, pedagogy, and lesson plans in collaboration with other YOLA music faculty. The employee will support the YOLA philosophy and community and help facilitate community and family involvement. Applicants will be considered for positions at all YOLA sites, as roles are available.

Position Elements / Responsibilities
Collaborating with YOLA faculty to create a shared curriculum and culture inspired by the ideals and philosophies of El SistemaInstructing instrumental studio and sectionalsAssisting with full orchestra rehearsals, playing and coaching within sections, and collaborating with the YOLA Conductor at the discretion of the Program ManagerCommunicating with YOLA academic tutors and parents to understand each child holisticallyAttending music pedagogy and tutoring professional development sessionsPreparation and communication with music teachers, YOLA Conductor, Program Manager, and Los Angeles Philharmonic StaffOther duties as assignedPosition Qualifications
Demonstrated excellent musicianship and artistry as a teacher / performerAbility to work weekends and eveningsAbility to work under frequent observationStrong experience teaching beginning instrumentalistsStrong knowledge of instrument specific repertoire, curriculum, and pedagogyStrong knowledge of orchestral music, music reading skills, and music pedagogyAccess to transportation, to and from YOLA siteExperience working with children from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds; experience working in historically marginalized communitiesStrong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse communityBilingual in English and Spanish a plusFour-year undergraduate degree or equivalent experience preferred, post-graduate degree or equivalent experience a plusSeniority level
