Level III HVAC electrician is a seasoned professional capable of handling the most challenging electrical aspects of HVAC systems with minimal supervision.

Routes, wires, assembles, and install electrical and electronic components, such as main junction and terminal boxes, main control switch panels, and instrument panels, according to specifications, using jig boards, hand tools, and equipment.

Reads work orders, blueprints, and specifications to determine established assembly methods.

Mentor junior staff and act as a technical resource.

Duties and responsibilities

• Prepares work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists, gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
• Positions parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements.
• Cuts wire to lengths specified in drawings, using wire cutters.
• Cut plastic sleeves and slip sleeves over wire ends to insulate connections.
• Crimps terminal eyelets and lugs to wire ends, using hand or machine crimping device.
• Routes, combs, twists, wraps, ties, and attach wire to terminal points using hand tools.
• Verifies specifications by measuring completed components.
• Connects wiring to accessories, control panels, plugs, condensers, switches, solenoids and installs accessory assemblies in electrical or electronic units using hand tools.
• Conducts functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, wire harness, and plugs, using ohmmeter, test lights, and other electrical testing instruments.
• Resolves assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisors, leads to obtain additional resources.
• Keeps equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
• Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
• Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Mentor and train junior staff, and act as a technical resource

Qualifications Required

Working conditions

Workers are required to wear safety gear, such as safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, leather shoes, long-sleeved clothing or coveralls, flame-resistant clothing if required, a respirator mask or ear plugs.

Physical requirements

Depending on the materials and equipment involved, team assemblers might experience exposure to loud noise or hazardous fumes, chemicals, oils or particles from various sources, including petroleum products, fiberglass, burning plastics, metal filings, sawdust, paint or industrial cleaners. Workers must also pay attention at all times, as assembly line tools and machinery can potentially inflict serious injury as the result of negligence or breakdown.
