Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc., an award-winning, multi-disciplinary engineering / design firm, has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter to join our company as an Entry Level Engineer / Bridge Inspector in our Ewing, NJ office.

As a recognized leader in bridge inspection, PCS has inspected thousands of bridges in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. PCS Bridge Inspectors have been featured in news segments regarding the condition of the nation's infrastructure on CNN, PBS, BBC, Fox News, and the History Channel.

Summary :

This is an entry-level position responsible for the inspection and evaluation of bridges and similar structures, using engineering knowledge and skills to determine structural condition in compliance with NBIS, local, state, and federal regulations.

Required Qualifications & Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • EIT certification (or ability to obtain it) preferred
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD software is a plus
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment to reach mutual goals
  • Ability to navigate around bridge structures, which may require climbing, wading in waterways, working from a boat, and working in and around traffic
  • A desire to work outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors preparing reports
  • Willingness to travel within PA, NJ, and DE

Responsibilities :

  • Assist in inspecting bridges and foundations for structural integrity, safety, and compliance with specifications and codes
  • Assist in drafting reports for review by Team Leaders
  • Assist in preparing recommendations, including quantities and costs for repairs, for review by the Inspection Team Leader
  • Use inspection equipment such as metering devices, tape measures, calipers, ladders, cameras, probing rods, etc.
  • Review and interpret plans, blueprints, and site layouts to ensure safety and legal compliance
  • Perform Load Ratings to determine Safe Load Capacity and Posting Level using LRFD, LFD, and ASD methodologies
