Director of Clinical Education

The Director of Clinical Education oversees the development and execution of educational programs that will ensure fulfillment of the Children's Center's mission by providing employees with the knowledge and skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered compassionate care. Provides leadership development to maintain professional practice standards and foster professionalism across clinical departments.

The Director of Clinical Education will be responsible for working an on-site schedule of a 5 days / week that may include weekends. The ideal candidate has strong clinical skills in change management, emotional intelligence and demonstrated leadership experience in a residential or behavioral health setting.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities :

• Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures.
• Plan and Develop educational programs for all departments / disciplines in conjunction with department managers.
• Develop evidence-based policies and procedures for the education and nursing department.
• Lead the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the Education Department to facilitate a child / young adult and family-centered environment that promotes the theme of "children come first".
• Ensure competencies are established for each discipline in collaboration with department managers in the facility.
• Coordinates ongoing review of clinical competencies to ensure skills of staff are maintained.
• Plans and develops interdisciplinary educational programs in collaboration with other disciplines.
• Cultivate a highly effective learning environment, and support personnel by conducting periodic staff learning needs assessments and incorporating educational strategies and utilization of best practices to address identified staff learning needs.
• Participates in the planning and preparation for regulatory inspections.
• Develop and maintain clinical educational calendar that meets organization needs.
• Strengthens a culture of evidence-based clinical practice, clinical inquiry and quality improvement.
• Acts as role model in creating a culture of clinical excellence.
• Understand the MDS and relationship to Care Planning. Monitor RN competency in conjunction with Quality department.
• Acts as liaison between Quality and nursing staff and assists in identifying and evaluating quality practice issues.
• Organize Nursing Orientation and Mandated In-service training as well as on-going in-service education programs.
• Serve as clinical resource to staff members, residents and families.
• Participate in committee appointments and serves as clinical education resource.
• Conducts formal and informal needs assessment.
• Develops educational programs, including lesson plans, staff development and continuing education to meet ongoing and evolving needs of employees.
• Evaluate and report the outcome of educational activities to as needed.
• Coordinate in New Hire General Orientation for clinical employees and participate in volunteer orientation. Support orientees until orientation is completed.
• Design performance checklists and maintain education records for all staff. Provide instruction and remedial education to staff as required.
• Ensure proficiency in EMR system.
• Serve as clinical resource to staff members, residents and families.
• Supervise clinical educators and other staff as assigned.
• Maintain liaison with school / colleagues using the facility for clinical experience.
• Understands and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
• Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and / or administrator.
