Construction Specialist 1 (2026 New Grads!)
CDM Smith is looking for an excited candidate to join our team in Boca Raton, FL. This opportunity is perfect for a new graduate looking to jump into the construction industry at a company that hires for careers, not jobs.
Responsibilities
- During the pursuit phase, assist in reviewing documents, preparing deliverables, and participating in pre-bid site visits. Determine total project costs by evaluating complex proposals and researching labor, material, and equipment costs. Develop a preliminary schedule for engineering and construction. Develop General Conditions based on bidding requirements including staff, temporary facilities, security, and safety measures.
- During the planning and execution phase, work with the project team, subcontractors, client, owners, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and safe project completion. Ensure timely arrival and installation of materials and equipment with field personnel and vendors. Prepare and review submittals of increasing complexity, issue construction documents and layouts to field crews, answer questions, and process RFIs.
- Supervise and direct overall project activities of basic to moderate complexity and interpret specifications and drawings for foremen and superintendents. Conduct inspections to maintain Quality Control (QC) reporting for project sites. Collaborate with Health and Safety professionals to evaluate safety performance metrics of subcontractors and vendors as part of procurement.
- During project close-out, work with the Project Manager to complete all contract-required deliverables and follow close-out procedures. Close all subcontracts and purchase orders. Develop final record drawings and as-builts. Ensure close-out submittals are documented and approved. Assist in final inspections, punch lists, and ensuring client satisfaction.
- With appropriate training, work with the project manager and VDC team to develop project capability needs and VDC plans. Facilitate solutions through collaboration with design and project teams via VDC, BIM, and traditional collaboration methods. Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and / or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on duties and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.An appropriate and valid Driver's License is required.20% travel required.Skills and Abilities : Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Basic computation skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with technology typical of engineering and construction projects. Proficient knowledge of construction terminology. Ability to read and interpret construction documents and drawings. Intermediate level PC skills.EEO and Background Checks
