POSITION SUMMARY
Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Network & Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and automate next-generation network infrastructure supporting advanced workloads, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and containerized applications. This role blends cloud systems engineering, network design, and automation, delivering secure, high-performance hybrid environments that integrate traditional networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies and OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) environments.
You'll work within a mission-driven engineering team to ensure scalability, resilience, and security across complex, classified infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to) :
- Design, deploy, and optimize hybrid network and cloud infrastructure supporting high-performance, secure, and scalable workloads.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and operations using tools like Ansible, Python, and Go , applying Infrastructure-as-Code and DevSecOps principles.
- Integrate traditional hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) with SDN and container-based networking solutions (e.g., Open vSwitch, OVN, SONiC, or Cumulus NOS).
- Support and troubleshoot network performance, routing, and system connectivity issues across Linux and containerized platforms.
- Manage OpenShift / Kubernetes networking - including CNI plugins, MetalLB, Service Mesh, and Network Observability Operator.
- Implement observability, monitoring, and performance tuning across the full network stack, leveraging modern tooling.
- Collaborate with systems architects, platform engineers, and external partners to deliver innovative, compliant, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
- Maintain technical documentation , network standards, and operational runbooks supporting security and compliance requirements.
- Drive modernization and innovation across the full network lifecycle - from data center to edge, Top of Rack to Border.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS / SCI clearance with Counterintelligence polygraph.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).5+ years of experience in network or cloud infrastructure engineering, including design, automation, and operations.3+ years of hands-on experience with networking protocols and architectures (LAN, WAN, VLANs, routing, firewalls).3+ years of experience scripting or programming in Python or Go for network automation or tooling.2+ years of experience using automation / configuration frameworks such as Ansible and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices.Proven ability to deploy and troubleshoot hybrid environments across Linux, virtualization, and container platforms (OpenShift / Kubernetes).Working knowledge of SDN technologies (e.g., OVS, OVN, SONiC, Cumulus NOS) and OpenShift networking components (CNI plugins, MetalLB, Service Mesh).Familiarity with observability and performance tools, including OpenShift Network Observability Operator.Demonstrated excellence in network and system troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional communication.PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency in Python or Go scripting and configuration management with Ansible.Experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), CI / CD pipelines, and DevSecOps practices.Hands-on experience with SDN technologies (e.g., OVS / OVN, SONiC, Cumulus NOS) and OpenShift / Kubernetes networking (CNI plugins, MetalLB, Service Mesh).Familiarity with service mesh technologies for traffic management, security, and observability.Knowledge of DoD network security and compliance standards.Exposure to AI / ML or high-performance computing (HPC) networking environments.Proven ability to drive innovation and apply best practices across the full network stack, from Top of Rack to Border, with strong documentation skills.Applicants selected will be United States citizens and may be subject to a government security investigation for access to classified information.ABOUT US
