Job Summary :

Responsible for selecting appropriate packaging materials and developing packaging designs to minimize waste, reduce costs, improve productivity, and ensure product quality during transportation and storage. Ideate, develop and implement packaging solutions that meet the needs of the company, regulatory bodies and customers. Work on reducing packaging-related costs and improving the efficiency of the product packaging process. Monitor industry trends and innovations to stay updated with best practices and technologies for packaging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
  • Identifies and drives cost reduction opportunities across manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Be knowledgeable of packaging equipment / machinery capabilities and actively participates in equipment selection process and evaluation
  • Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Participate in product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market
  • Conducts Fit for Use studies to ensure new products can be manufactured efficiently and cost effectively.
  • Standardize the Fill Weight Verification process for volume claim, net weight claim, and cosmetic fill.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and support the company's Lean Manufacturing Philosophy.
  • Evaluate current packaging and create cost improvement strategies for both existing and new package designs
  • Review preliminary production samples, and provide feedback to customers and vendors on improvements
  • Write packaging and / or raw material portion of new or revises existing finished product specification
  • Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs.

Knowledge & Skills :

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in cross functional teams; R&D, Project Management, Production, Compounding, and our suppliers
  • Strong Problem Solving and decision-making skills
  • Results driven with high personal accountability
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software with project management skills.
  • Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in product designing, packaging or related engineering fields.
  • 7-10 years of experience in package design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging technology, materials and design principles with knowledge of testing methods, regulations and standards for packaging.
  • Familiarity with production equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of sustainability and environmental issues related to packaging.
  • Strong creative skills for developing unique packaging solutions using current trends.

  • In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we are disclosing the compensation range for roles that will be, or could be, performed in Colorado. Compensation for similar positions located outside of Colorado may differ.

    If performed in Colorado, the base salary for this position generally ranges between $100,000 - $130,000. This salary range may vary based on relevant factors including but not limited to experience, education, performance, scope of responsibilities, location and other considerations permitted by law.
