Shipfitter / Stick Welder
This position is located in Newport News, Virginia. Perform multi-pass tack welding using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process. Operate burning and heating equipment, specifically oxygen / propane burning torches. Interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines. Comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler and lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly. Assemble structural piece parts according to specifications with high-quality standards. Work effectively in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding or steel fabrication. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry. Utilize vibratory tools including grinders and needle guns.

Work in the largest shipyard in the world, located in Southeast Virginia. The environment varies with hot and muggy summers and cool winters. Work on Navy vessels or in a shop setting, with shifts available around the clock : 1st shift (7am-3 : 30pm), 2nd shift (3 : 30-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am).
This is a Contract position based out of Lafayette, LA. The pay range for this position is $45.00 / hr.
