Electronics Design Engineer

This engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of advanced electronic systems used in motor controls, instrumentation, and industrial machinery. The role involves both hardware and embedded system design, with opportunities to focus on either power / drive electronics or analog / control systems, depending on experience. Responsibilities include designing and implementing control and drive electronics for complex machinery and equipment, developing detailed design packages, performing testing, and troubleshooting system performance. Analytical methods, simulations, and modeling tools will be applied to validate designs. Collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams on high-impact projects is required, as well as ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards in a highly controlled environment. Continuous improvement and technology innovation within the organization are also part of the role.

Essential skills include a Master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, 3+ years of relevant experience, ideally 10+. Experience with either motor controls design or analog design is required, along with proficiency with common engineering tools such as PSPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, and OrCAD. A strong understanding of electrical systems ranging from low-voltage DC through three-phase AC, solid hardware design, circuit analysis, and system troubleshooting skills are necessary. Familiarity with industry codes and standards (UL, IEEE, NEC, ANSI, OSHA, or NUREGS) is also required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential; the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams is a must. The candidate must have the ability to obtain or hold a DOE 'Q' security clearance.

Additional skills and qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, 6+ years of experience in industrial or power electronics design (Master's or 12+ years of experience preferred), hands-on experience with manufacturing environments, embedded systems design, or R&D projects. Active DOE 'Q' or Top Secret clearance is required. Experience in the nuclear, defense, or other highly regulated industries is preferred. Skills in power electronics, electric motor design, or embedded software development are also necessary. Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges with innovative, practical solutions is required.

The role is based in an on-site manufacturing and office environment, providing a hands-on opportunity to support cutting-edge energy technology with significant visibility to engineering leadership and the Department of Energy. This is a permanent position based out of Maryville, Tennessee. The pay range for this position is $115,000.00 - $130,000.00 / yr. Full benefits are available. This is a fully onsite position in Maryville, TN. The position is anticipated to close on Nov 14, 2025.
