Overview

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems manufactures and sells a broad range of high-performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance markets. We presently have a need for a Principal Electrical Engineer at our San Diego (Otay Mesa) location .

This position plans and implements the design, manufacture, installation, and / or maintenance of electrical systems and apparatus, such as electric motors, machinery controls, lighting, wiring, and power systems / devices, for the generation, transmission, and control of electric power. This role is eligible for a referral bonus.

Preferred experience for this role :

• Designs and develops new brushed and multiphase brushless DC electric motors.
• Improves existing designs to reduce cost, improve performance or manufacturability.
• Conducts detailed reviews of customer specifications.
• Prepares or directs preparation of product and / or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
• Performs design experiments related to motor designs and develops test methods, from concept to planning and execution stage.
• Directs and coordinates manufacturing and testing of prototype products and / or systems.
• Assists in troubleshooting prototype building and / or production when necessary.
• Conducts motor performance predictions by analysis of actual data and through the development of design-related algorithms in addition to existing methods.
• May act as project engineer support on selected projects.
• Interfaces with customers for support of existing products or new development opportunities.

Major Position Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

Required Education and Experience : Associate's Degree and 8 - 10 years experience

Preferred Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree

Discipline / Major : Electrical Engineering or other Engineering degree required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Oral and written communication, analytical thinking, circuit design, computer simulation, design optimization, electrical engineering, mathematical analysis, mathematical modeling, programming, prototyping, reliability analysis, requirements engineering / analysis, research and development, schematic capture, electro-mechanical components / instruments, CAD software, CAE software.

Critical professional technical skills include proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Pay Range (USD)

$102,410 - $190,190

The salary range reflects the minimum and maximum for this position. Individual pay is determined by work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors. Your recruiter can share more during the hiring process.

Additional Compensation

Hired applicants may be eligible for the Company’s Gain Sharing Program.
