GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Criminal Prosecutions Division of the Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Criminal Intelligence Analyst whose work will involve criminal intelligence research and analysis work for the Juvenile Crime Intervention Section in the Criminal Prosecutions Division. Primary work involves assisting in the maintenance of a web-based system dedicated for criminal and juvenile justice personnel on gang identification. Developing and implementing juvenile crime prevention and intervention initiatives, coordinating complex data analysis, report writing, and identification of patterns of criminal activity.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

Criminal Intelligence Analyst I :

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a dedicated website for criminal and juvenile justice personnel on gang identification. Organize and maintain gang information, edit submitted information, format photos and seek clarification of information to meet statutory requirements. Collect and disseminate general criminal / gang intelligence for website and training. Assist with state grant compliance monitoring, evaluation and other administrative duties as assigned. Plan and facilitate regional gang task force trainings and intelligence sharing meetings throughout the state. Help conceive, organize and conduct related seminars and training to the public, education and criminal and juvenile justice communities. Conceive and design training curricula; market these programs to develop and maintain a target audience.
  • Serves as a liaison with internal and external groups and individuals to provide analytical assistance, collect and disseminate intelligence data, and share resource sources. Enters data, reports, or records of criminal intelligence information into databases for use and reference by analysts and investigators in support of investigations. Performs analytical work in support of prosecutions. Researches, analyzes, evaluates, and correlates criminal intelligence information to determine source reliability, accuracy, and integrity; to develop investigative leads and links; and to distinguish patterns and trends.
  • Coordinates complex research and strategic crime analysis used to identify and evaluate patterns and trends using probability studies and complex statistical analyses, develops and tests hypotheses, develops victim and suspect profiles, and forecasts criminal activity. Organizes and maintains sensitive, non-sensitive, and open-source case data and files into a logical, concise, and understandable order for retrieval in support of the prosecution. Creates, prepares, reviews, and presents detailed reports, intelligence documents, presentations, and briefings on criminal intelligence analysis to disseminate to agency personnel, prosecutors, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepares background dossiers and conducts link analyses on individuals relevant to criminal investigations and prosecutions. Collects and compiles criminal intelligence information and statistics to generate intelligence data for support in investigations through personal contact, reading, and documentation of various intelligence, analytical, and administrative information. Assesses intelligence requirements and recommends, plans, and prioritizes data collection plans, potential targets, or case strategies.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
  • Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule.
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and / or protected information.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.

Criminal Intelligence Analyst II – All of the above functions for a Criminal Intelligence Analyst I, PLUS :

  • Coordinate efforts with federal, state and local agencies to collect gang identifier information for secure website and training. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with criminal and juvenile justice personnel throughout the state. Participate in multi-agency task force investigations, work groups, or committees to provide assistance by contributing intelligence analysis and concepts. May develop and maintain analytical procedures that ensure reliable intelligence operations.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Criminal Intelligence Analyst I :

  • Education : Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis : criminal justice, intelligence studies, forensic science.
  • Experience : Two years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields : Criminal intelligence analysis work.
  • Knowledge : of Intelligence gathering; intelligence and crime analysis processes, methodologies, and principles; statistical analysis and probability modeling; report writing and presentation
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication
  • Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
  • Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
  • Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
  • Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 30%
  • Criminal Intelligence Analyst II – All of the above qualifications for a Criminal Intelligence Analyst I, PLUS :

  • Experience : One additional year of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields : Criminal intelligence analysis work.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education : Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, intelligence studies or forensic science
  • Abilities : To provide clear and concise written intelligence reports; to use charts, graphs, and geospatial mapping to provide information on crime series, patterns, and trends; to analyze suspect and victim profiles; to conduct tactical crime analyses; to prepare tactical action plans.
