In this role, the Medical Assistant will perform primarily administrative duties as well as filling in clinics as needed. The Medical Assistant is an employee who performs a wide variety of patient care services under the direct supervision of the clinics supervisor, a Advanced practice nurse (APN) or physician. Such services can involve therapeutic and / or diagnostic procedures.

Essential Job Functions :

• Know and practice the University of Chicago Medical Center's Pride Values and Patient Centered Care Definition and Principles.
• Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Assist the L.P.N. with the in-basket for providers and answering all in-basket messages
• Forwarding / responding to MYCHART messages for all providers
• Completing / prepping all forms request by the school system
• Route prescription refills to all providers
• Scheduling appointments
• Precerting medications and services
• Prep FMLA paperwork
• Perform any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the Nursing policies and procedures.
• Appropriately implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform tests, i.e. pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocults, etc., specific to the patient population.
• Perform phlebotomy services.
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Assist with collection of specimens. Perform labeling and logging of specimens in compliance with hospital standards.

Position Details :

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Day shift, from approximately 9 : 00am-5 : 30pm, Monday through Friday and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. The days of the week that you are scheduled will be Monday-Friday.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
