Overview
The Wall Street Journal is seeking an energetic, self-starting audio / video producer and studio operator for our Washington, D.C. bureau. This is an unmatched opportunity to help drive podcast coverage with our news-breaking political and national security reporting teams and contribute to other productions across the WSJ Audio portfolio.
This is a non-managerial position, but we’re looking for a driven individual ready to make a substantial impact and grow with our team, taking on new challenges and potential leadership opportunities as our Audio initiatives expand.
This position supports multiple shows and productions, so the ability to juggle several daily assignments and work with different managers and on a variety of projects simultaneously with a can-do spirit and calm demeanor is essential. One morning you might spend a few hours helping to set and run a podcast shoot in the studio, and that same afternoon you may be on the Hill with a reporter doing field work for a video podcast series. The next day you might spend some time filling in as a host on one of our shows in the morning, and in the afternoon you may work with our technical manager to swap out equipment in the studio.
You’re an outgoing person who is good at building networks. You’ll get to know our DC and other teams across the globe, making sure you’re plugged into what business, finance, style, sports and other teams are doing across the newsroom to pitch ideas.
The successful candidate is a problem solver who understands how to get things done and can work with minimal supervision. You are a strong communicator who is good at keeping managers informed, and you know when to seek approval and when to work independently.
You have a strong background in video journalism, podcast production, digital storytelling and development. You’re a creative force with excellent editorial judgment and a passion for finding new ways to connect with an audience. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing, collaborative team that produces impactful, factual and news-driven podcasts across the WSJ newsroom. We have a dedicated core listenership, and we’re looking to take our content—and our audience—to the next level.
This position is based in our Washington, D.C. office and reports into the Deputy Editor, Audio.
To apply, please submit your résumé, a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, and links to five examples of your work that showcase your expertise in video podcast production. Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.
