Job Summary :
The Hospital Laboratory Manager – Blood Bank is responsible for managing all aspects of hospital laboratory operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and high-quality service delivery. This role oversees laboratory personnel, quality control programs, and process improvement initiatives while maintaining regulatory compliance across all hospital lab activities.
The manager serves as the primary leader and liaison between hospital partners and the Professional Lab Services (PLS) team, driving operational excellence, performance improvement, and successful contract fulfillment. This is a key leadership position that requires exceptional project management, analytical, and interpersonal skills, as well as expertise in clinical laboratory practices and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Supervise all hospital laboratory operations, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and contract standards.
Develop, implement, and monitor quality control and follow-up procedures to ensure reliability and consistency of laboratory results.
Lead regional and national lab management initiatives in coordination with the Professional Lab Services (PLS) team.
Oversee integration planning, implementation, and ongoing management of hospital laboratory partnerships.
Collaborate with hospital leadership, laboratory staff, and corporate management to ensure service-level agreements and performance metrics are met.
Participate in training and onboarding for hospital management and staff, evaluating project performance and effectiveness.
Manage and evaluate laboratory supervisors and staff; provide ongoing performance feedback and leadership development.
Prepare and analyze laboratory performance reports, including productivity, quality, and financial outcomes.
Coordinate with procurement and logistics to maintain adequate inventory and ensure efficient operations.
Manage laboratory budgets, invoicing, and capital equipment requests , maintaining cost efficiency and productivity targets.
Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, OSHA , and hospital regulatory requirements.
Implement Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement principles to optimize laboratory workflows.
Required Experience :
5+ years of managerial experience in the laboratory industry.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing laboratory operations, staff, and quality systems.
Prior hospital management experience preferred.
Experience with laboratory consolidation and project management initiatives.
Required Education & Certifications :
Bachelor’s degree required ; Master’s degree preferred .
Current State Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required where applicable.
Certification or formal training in Project Management or Lean Six Sigma is an asset.
