Summary of the Role
We are seeking Accounting Interns for Summer 2026 to work onsite in our Richmond office. This position has the potential to become a direct hire in a full time position after graduation. Key Responsibilities
Gain familiarity with paperless audits and audit software, audit objectives and current auditing pronouncements, practical application of accounting principles and financial statement disclosures.Gain familiarity with accounting, tax, and fixed asset tracking software, federal and state tax laws as well as their effects on businesses and individuals and how to apply them to differing situations.Develop analytical skills to identify and advise on potential tax issues as well as basic tax research skills.Develop effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as basic research skills regarding accounting and auditing issues.Essential Functions
Perform a variety of tasks under direct supervision of senior staff accountant or manager, including the following :
Prepare individual, partnership and corporate tax returns and related workpapersPrepare audit, review and compilation workpapersPrepare financial statementsPerform research on specific audit and tax issues as directed by senior staffPerform data input and analysisAssist with onsite financial statement audits at client officesAssist with employee benefit plan auditsComplete audit test work in areas including cash, receivables, and fixed assetsPrepare reconciliationsAssist with preparation of financial statementsPrepare federal and state tax returns for a variety of entity typesPrepare and record adjusting journal entries in order to complete trial balanceCalculate depreciation and amortization and prepare schedules of property and equipmentAssist senior staff as neededMaintain positive attitude and desire to succeedRequirements
Must be a Junior, Senior, or Master’s student pursuing a degree in AccountingMinimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferredInterest in pursuing a career in public accounting and taking the CPA examReliable transportation for social events and client visitsAbility to work at least 32 hours per week for a minimum of 6 consecutive weeksWhy WellsColeman?
