Position Overview

The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent, quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their significant others in an ambulatory care setting. This role emphasizes Relationship Centered Care and the nursing process through evidence-based practice and approved organizational nursing standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver patient care by applying the nursing process, research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and after-hospital planning.
  • Educate patients and caregivers regarding care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Manage assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing.
  • Patient Experience

  • Role model Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care through various patient-centered actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, and Discharge Wrap-Up.
  • Consider patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs in care.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to improve understanding of patient perceptions of care.
  • Address patient and family concerns through service recovery and escalate when necessary.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, empathy, and active listening in all interactions.
  • Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
  • Implement principles of high reliability to avoid high-risk behaviors and maintain a safe environment.
  • Utilize institutional information technology to document nursing practice supporting quality initiatives.
  • Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with management to ensure proper use of supplies and resources.
  • Document accurately and thoroughly in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate patient throughput on a shift basis.
  • Professional Development

  • Support colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members in the environment of care.
  • Advance clinical competence and nursing practice.
  • Project a professional image with caring, respect, and empathy.
  • Incorporate ethical principles into decision-making.

  • Requirements

  • Licensure : NYS RN / LPN License – Required
  • Experience : Minimum 2 years RN / LPN experience, with at least 2 years ambulatory care experience
  • Travel Experience : 1 year travel experience required for travel positions (not required for Per Diem)
  • Charting System : EPIC experience highly preferred
  • Schedule : 3x12 (as per skills section)
  • Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Associate Degree in Nursing accepted with relevant experience and / or active matriculation in a BSN program
