The Department of Mixed Media Productions at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a hybrid Multimedia Systems Engineering Technical Manager (Professional Technologist 4).
About the Opportunity
This role manages a technical department including two Professional Technologists, supervising one. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining a digital video and photo 1.5 petabyte server, multimedia device communications networks, wireless intercom communications systems, professional digital non-linear computer-based video editing systems, and technical oversight of major public-facing technical projects for the Strategic Communications and Marketing Division and West Virginia University. The Professional Technologist 4 reports to the Director of Mixed Media Productions and is a key member of the Strategic Communications and Marketing unit.

What You’ll Do
Handle multimedia systems and computer networks including SCM’s LTN Leaf fiber-optic transmission device, high-speed data network and broadcast digital media device network switches, DANTE, NDI, and daily maintenance / operations / repairs to SCM’s Multimedia Production backbone—the video & photo server (with a mirrored back-up) storing over 1.5 petabytes of archival content.Provide technical assistance to the Director by planning, developing, and technically supporting major projects as directed by university leadership.Serve as a technical advisor and provide technical support for the daily operations of WVU's internal digital signage network across campuses; collaborate with stakeholders on troubleshooting and new installations; assist with networking issues and content delivery.Prepare technical documentation as necessary, including flow charts, diagrams, architectural drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications per university and codes standards.Lead and direct technical staff in areas including computer networks, multimedia device networks, communications systems, project development, DAM, and ongoing system improvements; direct staff to respond to complex problems.Analyze and evaluate multimedia telecommunications systems, data networks, and DAM systems to ensure performance, accessibility, and compliance; develop and implement upgrades.Serve as Technical Manager or Engineer in Charge during live multicamera productions; events may require after-hours / weekend work and may involve lifting equipment up to 40 lbs and installing / removing temporary cabling.Hybrid policy : role is expected to be present at the workplace for a minimum of 22.5 hours per week; occasional virtual work (2 days per week) when possible, with in-person presence for meetings / events as needed.Qualifications
Bachelor's degreeMinimum five (5) years of experience involving : designing and managing high-level telecommunications, digital media asset management, and facilities infrastructure; leading a video or IT-focused team; serving as a technical advisor on committees and projects with proposals, specs, budgets, and bid evaluations.Any equivalent combination of related education and / or experience will be consideredAll qualifications must be met by the time of employmentKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of design, installation, and implementation of computer infrastructure and multimedia / video production equipment in high-bandwidth networks and large DAM serversStrong understanding of signal flow routing and troubleshootingAbility to integrate local and wide area networks with strong securityAbility to design and manage networks supporting voice, video, and dataWorking knowledge of switch configurations and best practices for video over IPAbility to manage and monitor network devices, servers, wireless, firewalls, DNS / DHCP, and related servicesAbility to manage SQL and web servers hosting resources and secure digital media archives accessInstall and manage remote control / access at remote sitesIn-depth knowledge of network and computer security; best practicesExperience configuring routers / switches and managing traffic with QoS; experience with 10GE equipmentExperience with digital media servers, DAM, DANTE, and professional non-linear editing systems (Adobe Premiere, After Effects)Proficiency with desktop software including Microsoft Office and Adobe suite and Avid systemsRequirements
