About The Position

Description :

Registered Nurse position in MedSurg / Telemetry.

Facility is a Level 1 Trauma Designation Teaching Hospital.

Each MedSurg unit has 20-36 beds.

Patient types and common diagnoses include all inpatient MedSurg units.

Patient ratios are RN : 1 : 4-6, LPN : 1 : 4-6, and CNA : up to 1 : 14.

Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use.

Common drips include insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate to heart rate.

CNA support available for vitals, blood glucose checks, baths, bed changes, and patient safety.

Unit Secretary available during designated hours, with house-wide call secretary during off hours.

Charge nurse present on the unit.

Most units perform lab-collect phlebotomy; RNs draw from central venous lines.

PICC team available for line placements.

Resource nurses, discharge nurses, and 24 / 7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist services are available.

Technology includes an electronic medical record system and various monitoring equipment.

Travelers will float to all Med / Tele units as needed.

Unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
