The role involves producing diagnostic radiographic examinations by positioning patients, providing immobilization devices, and selecting proper technical factors based on individual patient needs. Restricts radiation beam through cone and collimating devices to limit exposure to unaffected parts of the patient. Performs portable x-ray examinations in various settings, including patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms. Follows operational procedures to identify patient films with the patient's name and x-ray number, and correctly marks films regarding the side of the patient taken. Develops exposed x-ray films using available processing methods. Completes patient requisitions with technologist initials, date, number, and size of the film. Maintains an orderly x-ray room as directed by the head of the department. Prepares radiopaque contrast media and assists the physician in administering radiopaque mixtures to patients. Performs administrative duties related to scheduling appointments, providing patient instructions, film filing, maintenance of records, and reception of patients. Renders services and / or assistance to all patients based on their individual needs and abilities while moving, turning, and getting on and off the x-ray tables. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands for a minimum of 6 hours a day. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies care accordingly, taking into account factors like age, culture, language, and sensory impairments. Communicates with patients, parents, and / or primary caregivers at their appropriate developmental or educational level. Adheres to the standards identified in the organization's competencies. Schedule requirements include primarily Monday through Friday shifts, with occasional weekends and holidays as needed.
