Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg night shift position requiring a compact or ID RN license, as well as BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
Responsibilities
Work on a 13-bed Medical Surgical unit within an acute care hospital settingPatient population includes post-orthopedic surgeries, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, general surgical cases, arrhythmias, and some pediatric respiratory casesNurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4 without a CNA and 1 : 3 with a CNANight shift schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week, with shifts starting at 7p or 7aEvery other to every third weekend required, with occasional holiday shiftsRequired to titrate drips such as insulin, Cardizem, and heparinFloating to the ER for task-based assignments may be required on rare occasionsUses Epic EMR for charting; Epic experience preferredEquipment includes telemetry box, virtual monitor tech, nasal cannula, high flow, CPAP, and BiPAPFirst-time travelers will be considered for this roleCharge nurse serves as a resource and covers house supervisor responsibilities for Med / Surg and L&D unitsOne CNA supports the unit per shift handling vital signs, ADLs, foley removal, and sterile procedure setupUnit orientation consists of 1-2 shiftsProfessional scrubs of any color are permittedTwo shifts of call are required per contractSelf-scheduling is available but the first schedule is created to fill open shiftsNo blocked scheduling or special time-off requests will be acceptedRequirements
Active ID or compact RN license required at the time of considerationMinimum 1 year of recent Med / Surg experienceCurrent BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are requiredAbility to read at least basic telemetryDriver’s license required for considerationMust provide two references : one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 yearsCandidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facilityPermanent employees must be separated for at least one year before applying as travelersBenefits
