Job Summary

The student surgical technologist assists the surgeon during surgical procedures. The complexity of procedures ranges from routine to moderate to difficult. The student technician at this level receives guidance and instruction from all levels of staff members at all times.

Accountabilities

• Learns to make assessment of the needs of the patient and the surgeon by using physician's preference cards, policy and procedure manuals, and knowledgeable peers. - 20%
• Scrubs with assistance or supervision and recognizes personal skill level. - 20%
• Develops OR nursing care plans by working with RN V, ST IV, Asst. Nurse Manger and Peers. - 20%
• Constantly improves her / his scrubbing skills to include aseptic technique, draping, suture, and basic instrument care.-20%
• Organizes work and begins to demonstrate ability to prioritize. - 10%
• Makes physician and / or nurse manager aware of changing clinical situations. - 5%
• Maintains a professional demeanor throughout rotation. - 5%

Supervisory / Management Responsibilities

This is a non management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive

Minimum Qualifications

Education - Currently enrolled in an accredited educational program for surgical technologists

Experience - Has completed two quarters of clinical school course.

Required Licensures

BLS required

Has advanced skills for her / his level in school. Dealing with procedures, principles, and scrubbing practices.
