Reports To : Medical / Surgical Lead\nPOSITION SUMMARY : \nUnder the direction of the Medical / Surgical Care Lead and / or the on-duty Nursing Supervisor, the RN administers nursing care to patients in an efficient, safe and courteous manner using proper nursing procedures.\nThis job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities. Mayers Memorial Hospital Districtreserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at MAYERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DISTRICTS sole and absolute discretion.\nPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS : \n1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.\n2. Current licensure in good standing in the state of California.\n3. Maintains current CPR certification.\n4. ACLS required within one year of hire date.\nPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES : \nGeneral Competencies : \n1. Professional behavior is demonstrated, both when on duty and as a representative of MMHD outside of normal work hours.\n2. Ability to work with others, at all levels within the organization, and collaborate effectively.\n3. Above-average interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.\n4. A positive working relationship with patients, visitors, and facility staff is demonstrated.\n5. Organizational ability and time management is demonstrated.\n6. Produces deliverable products on time, within budget with minimal direction.\n7. Demonstrates the ability to compile and organize data using Microsoft Office Applications. Ability to make appropriate recommendations or conclusions, given the data obtained.\n8. Maintains an organized set of records, upon request, for the functions that are performed within the scope of this job.\n9. Communicates appropriately and clearly to directors, managers, and coworkers.\n10. Performs all assigned tasks accurately, to include proper spelling and grammar, reference materials, and minimal mathematical calculation.\n11. Takes direction from others to include those employees of other departments with which he / she works on a temporary basis in accordance with the chain of command.\n12. Maintains all information as confidential as appropriate, to include payroll, material produced for union negotiations, personnel information, and other information obtained during the course of performing job duties that is confidential.\n13. Demonstrates ability to effectively use office machines in the performance of job functions.\n14. Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner.\n15. Other duties as assigned.\nSpecific Competencies : \n1. Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patients immediate condition or needs within timeframe specified by facilities policy and procedures or protocols. Notifies MD of abnormal findings.\n2. Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by the patients condition and / or the facilitys policies & procedures or protocols and prioritizes care accordingly.\n3. Develops plan of care that is individualized for the patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team\n4. Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.\n5. Performs all assigned tasks accurately. Keeps work area and assigned rooms clean. Provides fresh water to patients frequently. Restocks storage area for Acute floor.\n6. Provides individualized patient / family education.\n7. Documents patient assessment findings, physical / psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.\n8. Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary in a professional and friendly manner.\n9. Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to appropriate resuscitation protocols.\n10. Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and facility staff.\n11. Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patients and familys diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.\n12. Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift.\n13. Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care.\n14. Attends departmental and hospital meetings and educational inservices.\n15. Assists nursing staff in other departments as requested and qualified when need arises.\n16. Maintains current CPR and ACLS status.\n17. Works with other departments in coordinating smooth transfer of patients for procedures or diagnostic tests.\n18. Assumes professional responsibility for assuring patient care is of the highest standards possible. Communicates questions about appropriateness of medical or nursing care through chain of command, as needed.\n19. Follows procedure for medication administration and narcotics control. Documents medications and nursing care in a timely and accurate manner.\n20. Assures that consents are obtained when needed and that all records are signed and legally complete.\n21. Supervises LVNs and non-professional staff in delivery of care to assigned patients. Make work assignments and act as a resource person for less experienced staff.\n22. Maintains knowledge of basic arrhythmia interpretation.\n23. Cares for the outpatient that requires blood transfusions and transfuse according to policy and procedures.\nProfessional Requirements : \n1. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.\n2. Completes annual education requirements if applicable.\n3. Maintains regulatory requirements.\n4. Wears identification while on duty.\n5. Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.\n6. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.\n7. Attends all meetings as appropriate.\n8. Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Mayers Memorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties.\nWORKING CONDITIONS : \n1. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.\n2. Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary.\n3. Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : \n1. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.\n2. Able to lift 20 lbs.\n
