The RN Manager is responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, and oversight of medical records management, orientation, education, and staff development within the Health Center. The RN Manager ensures medical record accuracy and regulatory compliance, facilitates staff training and evaluations, and supports the Director of Nursing in daily operations. This role also includes providing direct nursing care as needed, promoting resident dignity and safety, and fostering effective communication across all departments and shifts.
Essential Job Duties :
1. Assures accuracy and completeness of the entire medical record; maintains active and discharged charts per state regulatory guidelines; thins charts according to standards and practices and processes charting requests.
2. Maintains medical records and routinely inspects for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
3. Participates in family / resident care plan conferences.
4. Participates in meetings as assigned and in the absence of the DON, including QAPI, Risk Management, labor meetings, and other interdisciplinary team meetings.
5. Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to medical record documentation.
6. Maintains current data on AL residents with a significant change and ensures this information is shared with the Delegating Nurse. Completes documentation as assigned by the Delegating Nurse or Director of Nursing.
7. Educates nursing staff on documentation requirements.
8. Develops, coordinates, conducts, documents, and evaluates required and supplemental in-service education programs for all health center staff, acting as a resource to increase knowledge and job skill competence, in cooperation with the Medical Director, Administrator, and Director of Nursing. Utilizes outside resources as appropriate.
9. Develops, coordinates, conducts, documents, and evaluates orientation and training programs for all newly hired clinical Health Center employees.
10. Maintains appropriate training records and program materials as required by federal and state regulations.
11. Conducts and documents skills assessments / competences for all clinical Health Center staff.
12. Serves as a member of the Manager on Duty rotation.
13. Functions in the capacity of the Director of Nursing in his / her absence.
14. During emergencies or other disasters, reports for duty as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator for the duration of the disaster.
15. Serves as a staff nurse when staffing levels necessitate, in order to meet the needs of the residents, including but not limited to : providing direct care, accurate and timely administration of medications and treatments, documentation, and responding to emergency calls as necessary.
16. Makes routine rounds to ensure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.
17. Maintains self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
18. Encourages rehabilitative techniques in order to restore residents’ independence.
19. Provides on-call coverage every other weekend and as otherwise assigned.
20. Acts as back-up Delegating Nurse when needed.
21. Assists the Director of Nursing, Health Services Administrator, and others with clerical functions, including reports, spreadsheets, and other assigned projects.
22. Conducts regulatory education with Health Center staff.
23. Completes other duties and projects as assigned.
Other Duties :
1. Assists DON in developing and implementing medical records policies and procedures.
2. Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
3. Performs and evaluates audits as assigned.
4. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
5. Observes all safety rules and regulations.
6. HIPAA Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality of protected health information.
7. OIG Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to comply with the federal and state laws and regulations.
8. Interacts with residents and coworkers in a friendly and respectful manner.
QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Maryland and in good standing.
2. Minimum of two years of nursing experience in long-term care or a related healthcare setting.
3. Current CPR certification is required.
4. Experience with medical record management and regulatory compliance, with supervisory and staff education experience preferred.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
7. The ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
8. Delegating Nurse certificate preferred or must obtain delegating nurse certificate within established timeline of hire.
9. Compliance with North Oaks Immunization requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS : Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; must be able to stand / walk for up to 70% of the workday; must be able to lift, transfer, turn and position residents weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior. Must be able to lift and carry up 20 pounds frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally. May be exposed to communicable diseases including the HIV and HBV viruses. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
