Public Works Streets & Stormwater Operator

Highland City is seeking a Streets & Stormwater Operator to join our dedicated Public Works team. This is a hands-on role for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to keeping our city safe and well-maintained.
About the Role
In this vital position, you'll play a key role in the daily maintenance and repair of our city's streets, alleys, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems. You'll be a core part of a team that responds to everything from routine pothole repair to emergency storm and snow removal. This job is a mix of skilled labor, equipment operation, and critical infrastructure management. You'll work under the supervision of the Streets Department Superintendent and may have the opportunity to supervise seasonal staff on specific projects.
What You'll Do
Operate Heavy Equipment : Confidently operate a wide range of machinery, including dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, and skid steers for various tasks like hauling materials and clearing snow.
Streets & Sidewalk Maintenance : Perform skilled and semi-skilled work, including pothole repair, crack sealing, utility restoration, and sidewalk installation / replacement.
Stormwater Management : Maintain, operate, and clean the city's entire drainage system. Respond to storm events to remove blockages and prevent flooding.
Safety & Compliance : Ensure all work is done in compliance with OSHA standards and traffic control regulations ( MUTCD ).
Emergency Response : Be available for emergency call-outs and overtime work for snow removal and other urgent repairs.
Signage & Traffic Control : Install and maintain traffic signs, road markings, and serve as a flagger to ensure safe work zones.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of experience in the construction industry, with a preference for experience in irrigation, water, or wastewater systems.
Utah CDL License or the ability to obtain one within six months of hiring.
The ability to obtain several key certifications within 12 months, including Storm Water Inspector, OSHA Confined Space, OSHA Trench Safety, and First Aid / CPR.
Apprentice-level skill in operating heavy equipment and a variety of power tools.
The ability to perform heavy physical labor, lift up to 75 lbs., and work in various weather conditions and hazardous environments.
A strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively with co-workers and the public.
