QUALIFICATIONS :
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. At least two years of study at an institute of higher education, an associate’s degree (or
higher), or a passing score on the ParaPro Test
3. Ability to work effectively with elementary school-aged children
4. Demonstrated interest in education and students
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable
REPORTS TO : BUILDING PRINCIPAL OR TEACHER
JOB GOAL :
To assist the principal and / or teachers in maintaining a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares for classroom activism under the supervision of a certified teacher.
2. Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
3. Performs clerical duties related to classroom activities
4. Assists the teacher in implementing programs of independent study, enrichment, and remedial work.
5. Assists teachers with non-instructional classroom duties such as the creation of bulletin boards, organization of materials, and distribution of snacks, toileting, clean up and housekeeping.
6. Aids the teacher in the operation and care of equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
7. Assists the with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack, dismissal, and clothing routines.
8. Attends to the toileting needs of students.
9. Participates in in-service training programs.
10. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about the student as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
11. Assists with the supervision of the student during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips and community-based instruction.
12. Assumes such other duties as assigned by the building principal.
