Med / Surg RN Job Details

Assignment Type : Travel Registered Nurse Contract

Location : Carbondale, IL 62901 (Southern Illinois healthcare jobs)

Unit : Adult Medical / Surgical (4 Medical – 25 beds)

Shift : 12-hour night shifts

Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours per week

Duration : 13 weeks (Start : 12 / 1 / 2025 – End : 3 / 2 / 2026)

Orientation : One 8-hour onboarding day, up to two 12-hour orientation shifts

Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1910 - $1960

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Illinois or compact state

Minimum 1 year of recent Medical / Surgical nursing experience

Prior travel nursing experience preferred

Proficiency with Epic EMR system

Ability to work three 12-hour night shifts per week

Willingness to work every other weekend and every other holiday

Stroke certification preferred

Must be available to work Christmas Eve and Christmas

Med / Surg RN Responsibilities

Provide high-quality nursing care to adult Med / Surg patients, including stroke, post-operative, hospice, and comfort care cases

Manage a night shift patient load of 5-6 : 1, including total care patients as needed

Perform wound care, manage drains, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and administer heparin drips

Care for patients with altered mental status, CIWA, AKI, dialysis, and COPD exacerbations

Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes

Complete onboarding modules, hospital policies, and required clinical tasks efficiently

Demonstrate adaptability and readiness to excel in a fast-paced clinical environment
