Founded in 1987, Damien Center is Indiana’s oldest and largest AIDS service organization (ASO) and serves more than 8000 individuals living with or at risk for HIV through a comprehensive, innovative approach to care and prevention. Position Summary :

The Staff Dentist will oversee the delivery of dental services at the Damien Center Dental Clinic (opening Q2 2025). This includes managing operations of the clinic as well as engaging in direct patient care, effectively balancing the two. In line with the mission of Damien Center, the Staff Dentist develops strategies to address health inequities and increase access for historically disenfranchised populations to quality dental care. The Staff Dentist evaluates and improves the patient experience and the integration of services through close collaboration with other leadership in Pharmacy, Behavioral Health, the Medical Clinic, and Operations. The Staff Dentist manages program budgets, grant scopes of work, and successful outcomes. As a representative of Damien Center, the Staff Dentist develops mission-oriented collaborations with other community partners and related health programs.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Patient Care (0.75 FTE) :

  • Provide comprehensive dental care, including examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and procedures such as restorations, extractions, root canals, and prosthodontics.
  • Deliver quality, patient-centered care while adhering to state and federal clinical guidelines and procedures..
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options to promote optimal dental health.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and diagnostic findings.

Administrative Duties (0.25 FTE) :

  • Provides leadership and direct clinical oversight to the dental clinic and associated staff.
  • Manages dental recruitment and retention activities.
  • Regularly reviews and develops strategies for process improvements, improving clinical quality outcomes, and assuring compliance with HRSA and other applicable accrediting, regulatory, and funding agency standards and requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, continuing education programs, and quality improvement initiatives to foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
  • In collaboration with clinical and QI / QA staff, develops practice guidelines, policies and procedures for clinical care.
  • Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis.
  • Education and / or Experience

    Required

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid state dental license and current DEA registration.
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in general dentistry, with proficiency in a wide range of dental procedures.
  • 3 – 5 years of clinical management or leadership experience.
  • Preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish relationships with patients and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in managing clinical teams or projects preferred.
  • Proficiency in dental software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with HIV / AIDS preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish / English a plus.
  • Work or lived experience may substitute for education requirements on a case-by-case basis.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

    Possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior product results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
