Department Information

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) at Georgia Tech provides progressive and responsive support in all areas of research administration. The team delivers specialized educational, informational, and technological assistance to research administrators and faculty, ensuring effective and compliant management of sponsored projects across the Institute.

OSP offers comprehensive cradle-to-grave administration for research contracts and grants with a wide range of sponsors, including :

  • All Federal Agencies
  • State and Local Governments
  • Universities
  • Federal Agency Pass-Through Entities (regardless of type)
  • Nonprofit Organizations (excluding private foundations)

    The services encompass the full lifecycle of research administration from proposal review and interpretation of sponsor requirements to negotiation of appropriate terms and conditions, establishment of pre-contract agreements, and oversight of all active awards. OSP also manages modifications to existing agreements to ensure compliance and alignment with institutional and sponsor policies.

    Job Summary

    The Manager of Sponsored Programs is responsible for leading a team of sponsored programs professionals to develop and implement strategies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of grant management processes. This position emphasizes leadership by setting departmental goals, mentoring team members, and fostering collaboration across various departments to align sponsored programs with the institution's strategic objectives.

    Responsibilities

    Job Duty 1 -

    Lead and manage a team of sponsored programs professionals by establishing strategic objectives, conducting performance evaluations, and providing mentorship to enhance team effectiveness.

    Job Duty 2 -

    Develop and implement comprehensive policies and procedures for sponsored programs management that align with institutional goals and regulatory requirements.

    Job Duty 3 -

    Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals by coordinating team efforts and ensuring that all submissions are of high quality and compliant with funding agency standards.

    Job Duty 4 -

    Foster collaboration among departments to streamline the grant management process and ensure that faculty and researchers receive the necessary support and resources.

    Job Duty 5 -

    Monitor and analyze the performance of sponsored projects by reviewing financial reports and compliance documentation to identify areas for improvement and strategic opportunities.

    Job Duty 6 -

    Prepare and present reports to senior leadership on the status of sponsored programs, including funding trends, compliance issues, and team performance metrics.

    Job Duty 7 -

    Mentor and develop team members by providing training opportunities, resources, and feedback that enhance their skills in grant management and proposal development.

    Job Duty 8 -

    Serve as a liaison with external funding agencies and stakeholders to build relationships that support the institutions research initiatives and funding opportunities.

    Job Duty 9 -

    Stay informed about changes in funding agency policies and regulations by participating in professional organizations and attending relevant conferences to enhance the institution's sponsored programs capabilities.

    Job Duty 10 -

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    Educational Requirements

    Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

    Required Experience

    5+ years of relevant experience; 3+ years of supervisory knowledge.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Additional Preferred Qualifications

    Certified Research Administrator, Certified Pre-Award Financial Administrator and / or Certified Financial Research Administrator

    Preferred Educational Qualifications

    Master's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

    Preferred Experience

    This position will interact on a consistent basis with academic and research faculty; management, finance, and administrative staff; deans, associate deans, school chairs; vice presidents and sponsor organization representatives. This position typically will advise and counsel academic and research faculty; management, finance, and administrative staff; Georgia Tech deans, associate deans, school chairs and vice presidents. This position will supervise approximately five assigned research associates and staff.

    three of more years of supervisory experience

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    ABILITIES

    Application of required skills within a not-for-profit, educational, or federal government contractor organization is preferred. Knowledge of specific agency requirements including but no limited to NIH, NSF, DOD, and DOE is preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE

    This job requires in-depth knowledge of contract administration regulations and practices including those specific to Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and 2 CFR part 200; negotiation and excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, are required including the ability to communicate effectively with Institute and sponsor employees at all levels; extensive business and leadership skills including ability to plan, develop and implement the organization's operational policies, strategic objectives and initiatives; lead in a complex business and compliance-driven environment; produce workable solutions to challenging situations; and skills related to the use of office equipment and specialized computer applications and systems are also required.

    SKILLS

    ' Lead team responsible for : timely analysis of solicitations, proposal review and submission, negotiation of terms and conditions, and post award administration including coordination with Grants and Contracts Accounting and research administration departments responsible for research integrity assurance.

    ' Set goals, determine priorities, and provide feedback for assigned staff.

    ' Maintain current working knowledge of relevant federal regulations and agency requirements.

    ' Assist with formulation of OSP policy for administration of grants and contracts.

    ' Assist with strategic planning for the Directorate.

    ' Complex problem solving.

    ' Create and improve processes for grants and contracts administration.

    ' Advise faculty and staff on proposal submission process, post award administration, regulatory compliance requirements and Institute and federal agency policy.

    ' Perform other related duties as assigned.
