Gastroenterology Physician Job Details

Position Type : Locum Tenens Gastroenterologist (Per Diem)

Location : On-site in Fortuna, CA (Northern California healthcare jobs)

Start Date : January 1, 2026

End Date : Ongoing, flexible scheduling available

Shift Details :

Weekday Clinic & Night Call : 7 : 30am–3 : 30pm (St. Joseph) or 7 : 40am–3 : 40pm (Redwood), followed by night call from 5pm to 7 : 30 / 7 : 40am

Weekend Call : 24-hour coverage

Guaranteed Hours : 8 per day

Overtime after 9 hours per day (pre-approval required)

Patient Encounters Per Shift : 12–16

Estimated Hours Per Week : 36

Estimated Weekly Salary : $9450 - $10120

Credentialing Timeframe : 90–120 days

Gastroenterology Physician Qualifications

Active California medical license (required for California gastroenterology jobs)

Board Certification in Gastroenterology (required)

BLS certification (required)

Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience in hospital gastroenterology

Proficiency in gastroenterology procedures, including :

Upper GI endoscopy (biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder)

ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic)

Fluoroscopy

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)

Esophageal dilatation and manometry

Small bowel and liver biopsy

Lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy (biopsy, polyp excision)

Ability to provide current case logs and explain clinical gaps over 3 months

Fellowship in Gastroenterology (preferred)

Gastroenterologist Responsibilities

Deliver comprehensive gastroenterology care in both clinic and hospital settings

Perform advanced endoscopic procedures, including ERCP and PEG

Participate in weekday clinic, night call, and weekend call rotations

Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters and procedures

Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide high-quality patient care

Comply with all hospital policies, privileging, and credentialing requirements
