Yale New Haven Health is expanding its neurosurgery services to include 24 / 7 Advanced Practice Provider (APP) coverage. We are seeking motivated and skilled Physician Assistants to join our growing neurosurgery team. This dynamic role offers a rotating schedule of either four 10-hour shifts or three 13-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, to support continuous patient care.

Key Responsibilities :
Provide post-operative care for neurosurgical patients, including those with brain, spine, and stroke-related conditions
Perform daily rounding and post-operative management
Prepare and complete discharge summaries
Assist with the management of patients with external ventricular drains (EVDs)
Evaluate and manage neurosurgery consults, including :
Presenting and discussing cases with neurosurgeons
Acting as a liaison between neurosurgery and other services (Medicine, Surgery, Trauma, SICU)
Respond to trauma patients with critical neurosurgical injuries in collaboration with trauma and emergency teams
Perform bedside procedures including :
Removal of neurosurgical drains
Assistance with EVD placement
Preferred Qualifications :
Significant operative responsibility. Looking for someone with OR first assisting experience, and previous neurosurgery experience required
Previous experience in neurosurgery, critical care, trauma, or surgical subspecialties preferred
Proficient in high-acuity patient management and multidisciplinary coordination
Strong communication and critical thinking skills
Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights and weekends

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
Clinical working experience as an NP / PA in the specialty / service line is preferred but not required.
APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and go through the Medical Staff credentialing process. To be eligible, evidence of current competence to practice as an APRN, PA, CRNA, or CNM must be provided. This includes obtaining appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners during the Medical Staff appointment process.
LICENSURE
Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Connecticut State Physician Assistant License, ACLS / BLS Certified, when indicated for position profile DEA License.
Additional licensure, certifications and / or continuing education credits may be required during employment based on position and area of specialty. OR Connecticut State Registered Nurse License, Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License, Board specialty certification, as appropriate for position profile ACLS / BLS Certified, when indicated for position profile DEA License.
