Job description

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a Neuro Ophthalmologist to join the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Havener Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University, is a growing practice. We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time clinical Neuro Ophthalmologist position. The successful candidate will be responsible for patient care, research, and education at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Neuro Ophthalmology.

Department / Division Overview

The Ohio State University prides itself in being one of the largest universities in the country. The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has been established for over 100 years. The Havener Eye Institute has its primary location in the Eye and Ear Institute building near campus. We have newly constructed state-of-the art facilities that include on-site outpatient surgical centers. We strive to provide our patients with the highest quality of care with the latest surgical equipment and instrumentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Division Director and / or Department Chair is responsible for determining the work assignments. Each faculty member is expected to perform the full range of responsibilities in the areas of teaching, research / scholarship, and service. Clinical services are a component of your faculty responsibility, with or without the presence of a trainee.

It is expected that the academic mission of the Department would be supported. In consultation with the Department Chair, there will be an opportunity to pursue research, quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and education initiatives, or other activities consistent with the faculty assignment. Faculty members are expected to teach, which may include clinical or didactic teaching and may involve medical students, residents, fellows, undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.

Service commitments will include service at the OSUWMC facilities and other clinical sites as assigned. Active participation in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions is expected. Participation in local, regional, or national professional organizations is also expected.

Requirements

Qualified candidates must hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree

Completed an approved residency program in Ophthalmology, as well as a fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology or Neurology, with additional appropriate training in Neuro-Ophthalmology.

Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Ophthalmology

Eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio.

Due to contractual agreements with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. citizenship is required for participation in this role

Knowledge and proficiency in medical and surgical management of Neuro Ophthalmology.

Demonstrated interest in scholarship and discovery by evidence of basic and / or clinical applied research and publications.

Commitment to residents, fellows, and medical students is required.

Faculty Defined

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) orother terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and areappointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal careerfocus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and / or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, orprofessor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate(PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary careerfocus centers on research, service, and teaching.Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD / PhD degrees may also beinvolved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associateprofessor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate(PhD) or other terminal degree inthe relevant field of study.Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and areappointed for terms ofone to five years. Their principal careerfocus is research.
