WOOD COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE Position Description Job title Director of Courthouse Complex Security Reports to The Chief Deputy Special Notation :
- This is a fiduciary / administrative position and is unclassified pursuant to O.R.C. 124.11 (A) (9).
- The incumbent filling this position is appointed by the Appointing Authority to be a member of his / her personal staff and to serve on a policy-making level.
- The incumbent is not subject to civil service rights and protection, and the term of employment is at the sole discretion of the Appointing Authority.
- The incumbent is prohibited from forming, joining, assisting, or participating in any employee organization pursuant to O.R.C. 4117.01 (C) (9). Duties and responsibilities 10% (1) Stands in place of the Sheriff in courthouse matters or upon the Sheriffs request; promotes the goals and direction of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office as outlined by the Sheriff; provides new and innovative ideas and direction to promote the office of the Sheriff as well as developing a more efficient operation, all within the goals of the Sheriff. 29% (2) Oversees all Enforcement and Security concerns of the courthouse complex for the Sheriffs Office; advises Sheriff and Chief on all operations; assists the Chief in establishing priorities; recommends and develops new policies and procedures and submits those recommendations to the Chief and Sheriff for approval; communicates approved policies and procedures through organizational levels; involved in the hiring process; performs as mediator on employee issues which cannot be resolved at the supervisory level.
- Oversees safety and security systems for the Courthouse Complex including fire safety and building access systems.
- Arranges for and provides security for complex meetings, functions and proceedings.
- Coordinates emergency plans for evacuation of the Courthouse Complex.
- Organizes and designs security plans for all new and existing projects.
- Provides protection for all complex staff, attorneys, jurors, witnesses, other County employees and visitors.
- Escorts jurors and other personnel from courtroom to safe location as needed.
- Makes arrests and assumes custody of prisoners as necessary. 25% (3) Supervises assigned personnel; assigns work tasks; handles on call command responsibilities; evaluates work performance of deputies assigned to the courthouse ; implements disciplinary procedures and acts as hearing officer for hearings, and effectively recommends or institutes discipline; schedules personnel and approves available leave requests.
- Performs security checks of buildings and grounds.
- Monitors activity in the Courthouse Complex with surveillance equipment.
- Responds to panic, intrusion and fire safety alarms.
- Responds to requests for first aid.
- Coordinates bomb search team.
- Conducts interviews and investigations of incidents and prepares reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Operating systems 15% (4) Attends, participates in, and / or conducts meetings and briefing sessions; analyzes training needs with command staff.
- Maintains positive relationships with all elected officials and department heads through-out the complex as well as all other county agencies. 10% (5) Provides financial oversight of budget, training, overtime, etc.. assists in budgetary drafts and recommendations to the Sheriff for budget approval; prepares administrative reports; sends and receives electronic mail; schedules appointments in Microsoft Outlook, responsible for alarms, camera's and other security technology within the courthouse complex.
- Obtains quotes, co-ordinates security Projects and monitors contracts with vendors.
Applies for applicable grants and seeks alternative funding sources for material and equipment. 5% (6) Receives telephone calls and makes dispositions of inquiries and requests from general public and other agencies; actively participates in various community and state committees; troubleshoots and resolves problems; performs as liaison officer between the Sheriff’s Office and Courthouse Complex. 5% (7) Appears as witness in criminal or job related civil cases; serves as patrol deputy as necessary; serves individuals with summons, warrants, subpoena's and other legal notices as issued by the court; performs community oriented policing duties; meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions; attends professional education and training sessions, seminars, and workshops as directed; must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. 1% (8) Responds to emergencies at the courthouse complex after hours, and other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Sheriff. Qualifications Completion of peace officer training, supplemented by courses in criminal justice administration and management, criminal justice experience and 5 years of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification; must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license; must qualify for and maintain insurability under the county’s vehicle insurance policy; must be able to obtain other criminal justice certifications related to assigned duties; completes required annual continuing professional training. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle; firearms; computer software; office equipment; radio; handcuffs; camera; audio visual equipment. Working conditions :
