Position Title : Principal

Supervisor : Executive Director

Term of Employment : 12 months

Salary Classification : Administrative Salary Schedule

Salary : DOE

Job Summary : This position supervises the teachers and staff members assigned to Victory Autism Academy’s Program using leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each of his / her students. A significant emphasis is focused on knowledge of student instruction and learning assessment.

Essential Functions : Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks, duties, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned :

  • Serves as the instructional leader of Victory Autism Academy’s programs.
  • Enforce Victory Autism Academy’s rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Conducts direct and frequent observations of the instructional programs and provides feedback for the growth and development team.
  • Conduct monthly classroom observations with the Assistant Principal and any other relevant members of the administration team.
  • Promote a positive tone for collaborative school / community relations by articulating the mission, seeking community support, and fostering rapport with all stakeholders.
  • Confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities. Communicate and meet with parents as needed, seeking their support and input, to create a cooperative relationship to support the students.
  • Establish concrete goals and expectations that all students meet based on the analysis of student achievement data.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum alignment, instructional strategies, implementation, and assessment.
  • Assist with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of all school personnel
  • Assist with the selection of effective staff development that addresses the needs of the instructional program and needs of the staff, including workshops, conferences, visitations, and sessions in which staff shares successful practices and keep the staff informed and seek ideas for the improvement of the school.
  • Collaborate with the administration team on the master schedule for classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
  • Collaborate with the administration team to plan, organize, supervise, and direct all school-sponsored activities and functions.
  • Attend evening and weekend school events.
  • Assure school compliance with state and federal law.
  • Attend IEP meetings as needed or requested.
  • Spot check lesson plans, grades, IEPs, progress reports, report cards, and ClassTag.
  • Spot check the IEP / MET due date master sheet.
  • Run weekly meetings and prepare the agenda for each meeting.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain appropriate resources, and reports.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, employees, and visitors while on campus.
  • Supervise monthly drills for emergencies and disasters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge and Skills :

  • Knowledge of applicable Victory Autism Academy’s policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of special education curriculum
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide instructional leadership
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess student learning
  • Ability to prioritize school issues
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate in oral and written form
  • Knowledge of principles of basic non-typical child development stages and non-typical developmental delays
  • Skills in identifying, preventing, and de-escalating negative behaviors
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with Victory Autism Academy
  • Skills in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications
  • Minimum Qualifications : A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (or equivalent) and a minimum of three years leadership experience in a school setting and a minimum of three years as a teacher or any equivalent combination experience and / or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

    Other Requirements :

  • Arizona Principal Certificate.
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license
  • May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • May be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Must be able to complete training in CPR, First Aid, Non-violent Crisis Intervention (CPI), and specialized training for students with autism
  • Must be able to attend training and utilize approved therapeutic CPI holds; must be able to run after students who are at risk of fleeing from a safe location.
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions
