Financial Analyst III (College of Medicine-Tucson) (Multiple Positions) (Updated)
The Financial Analyst III is an integral part of the College of Medicine-Tucson finance team, responsible for providing comprehensive financial management and operational support to departments, centers, and administrative units. This position plays a key role in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and analysis while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
The Financial Analyst III will assist departmental / center administrators and staff to facilitate the annual all-funds budget process and quarterly forecasting. They are responsible for reviewing and validating financial data for accuracy, resolving discrepancies, preparing detailed financial reports, analyzing performance and offering actionable insights to support strategic decision-making. This role requires strong analytical and problem solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Excel and financial reporting is essential.

Alongside senior leadership, serve as a key point of contact for the annual All-Funds budgeting and quarterly forecasting for the departments, centers, and administrative units within the College of Medicine-Tucson. Responsibilities include providing financial analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance at the College-level, developing and implementing standardized processes, guiding departmental and center staff on the logistical preparation of budgets and forecasts utilizing College budgeting tools and processes, resolving discrepancies and addressing areas of concern, while ensuring efficiency of financial data input into the University budget system.
Monitor and analyze the financial performance of the College of Medicine departments' and centers' actual performance against budget, financial targets, other key indicators and compliance metrics. Identify, assess and analyze significant variances in financial results, develop proactive solutions and provide insights and recommendations to leadership.
Conduct comprehensive ad-hoc financial and / or budget analysis for college and / or departmental decision-making purposes. Provide in depth financial insights, performance metrics, and strategic recommendations with the aim of improving financial processes, and managing risks developing solutions.
Partner with College finance leadership in the development and implementation of financial plans and strategies.
Support or lead in the development of annual budgets as it relates to the College's allocation model and / or other areas within Medicine Administration, ensuring alignment with goals and priorities.
Generate monthly or quarterly budget / financial reports, ensuring accuracy and providing insight into expenditure trends and making recommendations for adjustments and improvements.
Prepare, analyze, monitor, and forecast complex financial or operational data for senior administration to drive data informed decision making.
Develop and oversee various financial schedules and reporting protocols for Administration, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with financial goals and regulations, while establishing best practices.
Perform reconciliations to ensure expenses and revenue are accurately reported, aligned with budget plans, and compliant with financial reporting.
Serve as a liaison with main campus units, such as the Financial Services Office and provide support to departments and centers on various financial matters, addressing questions, resolving issues, and offering solutions. Use subject matter expertise to advise on budgeting, expense / account management, financial analysis / reporting and policy.
Using advanced Excel skills, prepare and analyze various ad hoc financial reports, as needed.
Execute financial transactions, including processing or approving expense and funds transfers, while ensuring proper documentation and adherence to policies and procedures.
Compile data and conduct analysis for institutional and industry benchmark surveys, as needed.
Participate in other College initiatives and projects, as needed.
