Overview
The Veterinary Assistant supports the Veterinary Technician, Clinic Lead, and CCACS Veterinarian. This position involves helping to maintain the cleanliness of the clinic, keeping records, and assisting with the health, care, and treatment of all animals housed at ACS
Responsibilities
- Assist with physical examination of animals at CCACS
- Assist with administering proper dosages of medications and vaccinations, venipuncture, Heartworm Testing and Parvovirus testing
- Assist Animal Cruelty Investigators, and Veterinarian with evaluation of animals seized for cruelty or neglect
- Assist in properly recording all animal medical and behavioral notes in Chameleon Software
- Assist with monitoring the medical condition of all animals in the shelter under the guidance of the Veterinarian
- Assist in daily care of the animals in the clinic by ensuring they receive the appropriate type and amount of food and fresh water
- Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in kennels, cages, and treatment areas to prevent the spread of disease
- Provide physical activity and mental stimulation, especially for animals in long-term care, and ensure proper disposal of animal waste and used medical supplies
- Assist with maintaining an inventory of clinical supplies and medications to ensure necessary supplies are available
- Assist Veterinary Clinic Lead with maintenance of clinical equipment, including Oxygen Concentrators, Anesthesia machines, Centrifuge, Microscopes, Autoclaves, surgical lights, CBC machine and Ultrasonic Machine
- Assist in maintaining records of all medical and treatment information for animals in Chameleon Software, including clinical notes, vaccinations, immunizations, surgeries, and microchips administered
- Handle the filing of medical forms, including surgery and pre- and post-surgery documents, following standard clinic protocols
- Assist with reading and responding to emails from internal and external customers in a timely manner
- Review voicemails, return calls, answer questions, and refer to the veterinarian or provide the requested information
- Identify sick or injured animals in the shelter, and provide the necessary medications and required clinical treatments
- Administer daily medications to each animal as prescribed and document all treatments
- Notify the Clinic Lead and / or Veterinarian about any new medical conditions, patient progress, or relevant health information
- Assist the Veterinary Clinic Lead with performing rounds daily for all shelter animals
- Advise the Rescue and Foster Coordinator on specific animals' needs
- Ensure timely vaccination intake, accurate aging, breed identification, and completion of routine procedures
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

High School Diploma / GEDSix (6) months to one (1) year of experienceLicenses and Certifications
