Accounting Director

Position Summary

The Accounting Director is responsible for overseeing the museum's accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting. Working closely with the CFO, this role manages the day-to-day accounting functions, ensures compliance with GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards, and supports strategic financial management to advance the museum's mission.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and revenue recognition.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB).
• Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts and ensure timely closing of the monthly and year-end books.
• Support preparation of the annual budget, forecasts, and variance analyses in collaboration with department heads and the CFO.
• Coordinate the annual external audit, including preparation of audit schedules and liaising with auditors.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting requirements, including tax filings (Form 990, state charity registrations, etc.).
