Position Summary
The Resource Planning Leader plays a strategic and operational role in optimizing deployment, utilization, and long-term success of the consulting workforce. This role bridges tactical staffing with strategic workforce planning, ensuring the right consultants are staffed to the right engagements at the right time.
With a strong understanding of pipeline visibility, sales forecasting, and consultant capability mapping, the Resource Planning Leader anticipates demand, identifies resource gaps, and guides staffing decisions that support both client delivery and organizational growth. This role partners closely with Client Services, Delivery Leadership, Recruiting, Business Operations, and Partner Services to ensure staffing decisions are both data-informed and aligned with human strengths, development goals, and margin targets.
By maintaining visibility into consultant availability, forecasting utilization, and supporting internal mobility, the Resource Planning Leader drives operational efficiency, workforce continuity, and scalable growth across the consulting organization.
Key Responsibilities
Demand Forecasting & Workforce Planning
- Analyze sales forecasts, pipeline activity, and engagement roadmaps to anticipate upcoming staffing needs.
- Maintain real-time visibility into consultant availability, projected end dates, and delivery capacity across service lines.
- Partner with Recruiting and Partner Services to proactively address talent supply gaps.
Resource Allocation & Deployment
Align consultant staffing decisions with client delivery needs, skill fit, development goals, and financial performance targets.Champion internal mobility, ensuring consultants are positioned for skill growth and engagement continuity.Support scenario planning and rapid staffing models to meet emerging client opportunities.Utilization & Capacity Management
Forecast and track billable utilization at the consultant, project, and organizational levels.Identify utilization risks, bench time, and redeployment opportunities to minimize idle capacity.Provide utilization insights that inform revenue planning, delivery capacity, and margin optimization.Strategic Talent Enablement
Partner with Delivery Leadership to align staffing decisions with consultant growth plans and capability development.Recommend opportunities for upskilling, cross-training, and certification alignment to future pipeline demands.Ensure staffing decisions incorporate both quantitative performance data and qualitative team insights.Qualifications
Required
7+ years in resource planning, workforce management, or talent operations, ideally in consulting or professional services.Strong analytical and workforce data interpretation skills.Experience tracking consultant utilization and modeling capacity.Proven ability to align staffing strategies with operational and financial targets.Excellent communication and cross-functional relationship-building skills.Comfort operating in fast-moving environments with shifting priorities.Familiarity with staffing workflows, HRIS, PSA, or capacity management tools.Preferred
Background in consulting staffing, service delivery operations, or professional services automation (PSA) platforms.Understanding of IT consulting delivery models and recruiting processes.Strength in scenario planning, demand modeling, and workforce optimization practices.Core Services Delivered
