Certified Medical Assistant
This is a University of Minnesota position and is on-site at the Community-University Health Care Center (CUHCC). This is a 100% appointment, 40 hours / week. The hours will range from 8 : 00am -5 : 30pm, Monday - Friday. Some overtime / Saturday hours may be required. This is an AFSCME Healthcare position. Bargaining unit consideration begins on 11 / 17 / 25 and ends on 11 / 24 / 25.
Job Responsibilities
Patient Contact / Care : 85% Conducts thorough and timely pre-visit planning for each encounter according to standards. Prepares for each visit according to the pre-visit plan. Assists with psychiatric or medical needs as they arise : performs EKGs, makes same day referrals to medical, lab follow up and hospital transfers, or other. Interviews patients, checks vital signs, performs assessments appropriate to patient age and visit type, obtains consents, prints out lab reports, hospital discharge summaries, and related documents. Coordinates with scribes and interpreters for each patient visit. Completes providers' orders as appropriate. Assists providers with procedures and exams. Administers medications and injections, including vaccines. Teams with other medical / nursing assistants, laboratory and nursing staff, PSR's and others to support patient care and flow. Contacts patients with lab results or other needs. Provides patient health education materials around diet, symptoms or other areas as outlined in the after visit summary and / or care plan as directed by a provider. Coordinates with the patient and other members of the care team to ensure patients receive assistance for medications, find transportation, or connect to community resources (food shelves, groups, shelters) as needed.
Other duties 10% Maintains examining rooms / replenishes supplies / cleans instruments. Inventories and orders supplies. Actively participates in daily huddles, team meetings and other clinic initiatives. Participates in quality improvement projects to improve clinic flow and improve patient outcomes. Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Required qualifications : Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program and certified by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), registered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or another National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited organization. Able to lift 30 lbs. CPR certified within 60 days of start date and continuously maintain CPR certification throughout employment. This position requires a negative TB test, and a Hepatitis B vaccination upon hire.
Preferred qualifications : Fluency in Somali, Spanish or Hmong or Vietnamese or Laotian. Experience working in a Community Health Center or with clientele who experience many barriers to health care. Proficiency and interest in working with both medical and psychiatry patients in a primary care setting as part of a team. Proficiency in working with computerized medical records, Microsoft Word, and other software. Demonstrated / documented attention to detail and persistence in completing tasks. Demonstrated / documented ability to multi-task, organize tasks and prioritize. Demonstrated / documented high-level communications skills to work with patients, staff, providers, and outside agencies. Demonstrated / documented excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated / documented respectfulness and ability to work with patients and staff from diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Demonstrated / documented capacity to work on a team and make positive contributions to the team

Pay and Benefits
