Job Title : Pastry Chef / Baker

Position Overview
The Pastry Chef / Baker is responsible for producing high-quality baked goods and pastries that align with New General’s modern, clean, and clean ingredient-driven philosophy. This role requires a balance of creativity and precision — crafting products that are as beautiful as they are delicious, while maintaining consistency, efficiency, and cleanliness in the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Execution
- Prepare and bake daily pastry and bakery items including muffins, scones, cookies, breads, and specialty desserts.
- Execute seasonal and rotating menu items according to recipes and brand standards.
- Maintain consistency in portioning, quality, and presentation.
- Adjust recipes and production schedules based on café traffic and demand.
Menu & Development
Collaborate with the Shop Mgr. on new product ideas, flavor development, and seasonal features.Stay current with pastry and café trends while honoring the New General aesthetic — minimal, natural, and elevated.Operations & Standards
Oversee early-morning baking prep and ensure items are ready for café open.Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work area at all times.Manage ingredient rotation and storage; minimize waste and control food costs.Ensure all equipment (ovens, mixers, etc.) are cleaned, maintained, and in proper working condition.Team & Culture
Work collaboratively with BOH and FOH teams to ensure seamless service.Communicate production needs and inventory updates clearly to management.Uphold New General’s commitment to sustainability, quality, and hospitality.Qualifications
2+ years experience in a bakery, café, or restaurant setting.Strong knowledge of pastry and baking fundamentals (mixing, lamination, temperature control, etc.).Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Passion for high-quality ingredients and clean, modern food.Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask under pressure.Food Handler’s Certification (or willingness to obtain).Physical Requirements
