The Challenge
We are looking for a Geotechnical Operations Engineer to join our Eastern Regional Operations team.
Our Geotechnical Engineering team :
- Provides geologic, geotechnical, and geoenvironmental engineering aspects of planning, design, construction, and maintenance of NC highways.
- Collects / analyzes subsurface information and provides geotechnical engineering designs / recommendations for roadway slopes, embankments, subgrades, foundations of roadways, and structures to ensure stability and cost-effective construction.
- Assists in the construction and maintenance of roadways / structures and investigate / develop geotechnical / geoenvironmental remediation plans.
- Investigates known / potentially-contaminated properties to identify the presence and provide removal instructions for hazardous material and underground storage tanks.
- Reviews geotechnical designs / construction submittals from private engineering firms / contractors .
- Conducts new product evaluations before products are used in construction.
In this role, you will :
Direct our Eastern Regional Office Geotechnical Design section's daily operations that are responsible for geotechnical designs on projects in NCDOT Divisions 1 – 6.Review geotechnical designs provided by consultants contracted with NCDOT (Central office or Divisions) providing comments and interacting with consultants to achieve the best geotechnical designs / approaches for NCDOT projects.Provide technical guidance to your team and technical support to the unit, other NCDOT units, and division staff.Lead a team of 3 geotechnical design engineers.Develop and implement internal quality control processes to ensure delivery of high-quality geotechnical designs in accordance to internal policy, applicable codes, and FHWA recommended practices.Develop and implement processes that will achieve high efficiency, client satisfaction, and ensure a timely response to clients' requests.Track projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.Assist the State Geotechnical Engineer with developing policies, standards, and procedures of geotechnical engineering.What You Bring
Thorough knowledge of the NCDOT's organization and operations.Experience using geotechnical engineering and engineering geology principles and practices related to highway design / construction to resolve highly technical design or construction problems for junior staff and to offer technical advice to construction engineers and maintenance staff.Experience preparing and administrating geotechnical engineering contracts.Experience understanding contracts' legal implications and providing input to construction contracts.Experience managing teams including interviewing, recommending, or filling positions, staff development, administering performance evaluation, and taking / recommending disciplinary actions.Experience supervising permanent staff, contractors, and / or consultants.Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in engineering, and5+ years relevant experience, and3+ years of management experiences; orAn equivalent combination of training and experience.Note
We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.Questions?
