General Description:

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for supporting formal capital projects and leading operational projects related to facilities, production processes, and utilities. The position supports or oversees as assigned the full project lifecycle, actively managing change, communication, cost, resources, schedule, and scope in coordination with the Engineering team, other functional groups, external vendors, and customers. Reporting to the Lead Engineering Project Manager, this role ensures project deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget, requirements align with the capabilities and resource availability of the organization, and completion of deliverables remains on time, on budget, and within scope. The Engineering Project Manager directly supports and communicates management of change within the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership, coaching, and support necessary to guide project teams in the successful execution of projects.
  2. Actively manage the lifecycle of projects, from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring and closing phases.
  3. Generate and maintain comprehensive documentation in well-organized repositories, including but not limited to project financials/budgets, scheduling, risks, benefits, changes, communication, quality, procurement, and reporting.
  4. Drive effective project cost accounting by tracking quotes, issuing purchase orders, and reconciling invoices.
  5. Develop comprehensive plans to be shared with customers, external vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  6. Track and regularly report on key project performance metrics to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  7. Develop and present potential actions/changes to lower risk, increase value/benefits, and/or leverage available resources to improve project or business performance.
  8. Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, external vendors, and within the organization.
  9. Participate in the development of capital project planning and support strategic capital planning processes. Additionally, direct execution of operational projects and implementation of cross-functional improvements throughout the network.
  10. Develop subject matter expertise within the industry for equipment, processes, and innovation to support strategic initiatives in new products operational improvements.
  11. Partner with other departments to foster innovation, support product launches, improve operational performance and support the company’s strategic initiatives.
  12. Responsible for the successful attainment of objectives, execution of policies, and most effective utilization of available resources.
  13. Supports employees by coaching, mentoring, and assisting in resolving issues/concerns to increase productivity, job capabilities, and equipment capabilities.
  14. Responsible for leading a culture of continuous improvement in all areas while balancing quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results.
  15. Responsible for the enforcement of GMP’s and ensures strict adherence to Corporate and/or Plant Policies, rules, and regulations including administering coaching and corrective action as necessary.
  16. Responsible for validating the proper training and development of team members and ensuring their compliance with all SOP’s.
  17. Ensures and inspects compliance with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing, safety, and working conditions in the department and organization wide.
  18. Responsible for food safety and for supporting SQF compliance by setting a high standard for food safety and food quality.
  19. Ensures work areas are sanitary and that biosecurity measures are administered.
  20. Establish and maintain a positive work environment including but not limited to maintaining the open door program and resolving moderate to complex workplace concerns.
  21. Ensures effective communication between departments.
  22. Ensure safety compliance and accident investigations are conducted and corrective actions are taken in timely manner.
  23. All other tasks as assigned by management.

Essential Knowledge, Skills:

  1. Ability to apply moderate to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and knowledge of weights and measure, to sufficiently handle job tasks.
  2. Discipline to maintain documentation and communication in an organized, cohesive, and prompt manner.
  3. Understand and respond appropriately to moderate to complex employee, vendor, and customer inquiries.
  4. Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need).
  5. Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and role in achieving each of them.
  6. Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
  7. Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information.

Performance Standards:

  1. Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned manager prior to the occurrence.
  2. Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work.
  3. Responsible for being well-groomed and dressed in a business-and position-appropriate attire at all times including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards.
  4. Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
  5. Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
  6. Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Work Schedule:

  1. Requires occasional work outside standard business days/hours in accordance with project, department, and organizational needs.
  2. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by manager.
  3. Salary: Generally scheduled for 40 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.

Environmental Concerns:

  1. Normally protected from weather and temperature changes possible exposure to hot cold wet, humid or windy weather conditions does exist.
  2. May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens
  3. May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.

Physical Job Requirements:

  1. Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building.
  2. Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  3. Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
  4. Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  5. Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.

Work Location:

  • East Syracuse, NY

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $107,500 to $138,000.
